“Very comfortable”
Reviewed May 6, 2013 via mobile

Recently stayed here during a short 2 night stay in Zadar. Fortuna is a wonderful host and extremely helpful. The rooms are spotless and breakfast was great. A 40 min walk into Zadar old town or a short bus trip.

Reviewed April 9, 2013

We paid around £50 a night in April and stayed in a small but comfortable room on the ground floor. The owners do not speak perfect English, but the gentleman was keen to help with taxis and arranged these for us several times.

Generally the room was clean, although on the first morning we discovered ants were roaming around the floor. We notified management and they fixed the problem, although this wasn't ideal to begin with. Bathroom included shampoo, body wash, shower caps, soap etc. Shower wasn't spotlessly clean, a few mouldy marks, but nothing significant. Mini fridge included in room (great thing to have) had bottled water and beer (both very cheap) and small bottles of local wine as well.

The room we chose was deliberately because of its cost, and only had one window looking into the courtyard area. I understand the more expensive suites are more impressive, but if you are on a budget the cheaper rooms are still a good choice. We only spent a few waking hours in the room anyway. Bed was very comfortable, we slept extremely well, so no issues there. Air conditioning works well.

Breakfast included orange juice, tea/coffee, salami and ham, bread with spreads/butter etc, eggs cooked whichever way you prefer, a large doughnut, triangles of cheese and so on. This was very nice and we really enjoyed it. No cooked sausages, bacon etc but we weren't expecting this.

Location is walkable to old town in about 45 minutes. Taxis cost about £5 one way which is great value. Sadly the beach outside is littered - we saw rubbish, plastic bottles, at least one dead bird etc - but this is a public beach and not the fault of the hotel. We found the beach gets nicer further around the coast.

One taxi back was difficult; the driver did not know the hotel, or the one next door. Make sure you take a map with you or a phone with Google! However, we found the location to be fine considering our short stay.

Last point to note - if you booked this through booking.com (which appears to be quite common given the price), you will have to pay in local currency at the end. We should have been aware of this but we didn't realise. Hotel does not take credit cards (quite poor in this day and age, particularly if you are staying a considerable length of time). However, there is an ATM in walking distance.

Overall, we had a good stay and Zadar is a beautiful place. I would recommend staying at Villa Ivana - generally very good, a few cleaning points that could be improved.

We were at Villa Ivana (Puntamika, Zadar) twice. Nice rooms, lovely, spacey terraces, wonderful view, excellent breakfast, good (and quite peaceful) location (view, beach, starting wandering point and a good restaurant near by) and really cool owner and his family. If there was just a little bit cheaper and a little bit cleaner, would be perfect. It’s not dirty, don’t worry, it’s just not as clean as it should be - or if you prefer - as you might expect for that house and those kind of rooms. However, it is definitely a come back point. We had a great time there.

We stayed 4 nights at Villa Ivana and were sorry to go. Everything was so great: views on the old town, the Adriatic, the beach, our cosy and confortable room with the balcony overlooking the sea, delicious breakfast and hosts that were friendly and very helpful. The Old Town is a pleasant 40 minute walk or you can take the local bus (number 5 or 8) - bus stop is a short walk from Villa Ivana. Strongly recommend staying at Villa Ivana.

We stayed at Villa Ivana for 5 nights at the start of our Croatian holiday and our only disappointment was that there was no availability for the last few nights of our trip (our trip was split in 3 parts), but can see now why it is so popular.

The hosts were so friendly and helpful that we felt part of the family!. They provided information on taxis, car rental, excursions, and restaurants etc, all of which were spot on. We even had a taxi waiting for us at the airport for collection.

The twin room (studio) was spacious, modern and very clean, with a large balcony overlooking the sea. Air-con in the room for hot nights. WIFI worked in the room (and sometimes even on the beach!). Breakfast was included in the price and served in a nice room across a small courtyard. There is also a roof top terrace with tables and chairs which were great for looking out over the sea toward the old town.

There are restaurants (Niko) and bars (Yachting & Bamboo) within a few minutes walk away.
The apartments have beach loungers for guest use on the stony beach directly across the road.
(The road outside the apartments is not a thru road so there was no noise and very little traffic at night)

To the old town… the bus Stop is less than 5min walk away, 16kuna return. A taxi into town was 40-50kuna depending on the taxi firm.

Highly recommend these apartments, and would definitely consider them top of the list if I ever return to Zadar.

Villa Ivana was great. In particular the family that run it are excellent hosts. They gave us great tips and ideas about good locations to visit, restaurants, practicalities of getting to the old town and were very genuine. Our apartment was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Highly recommended as the best place we stayed in Croatia.

Room Tip: Choose a sea view.

Villa Ivana was the perfect place for our 3-night stay in Zadar. The views of the Adriatic from our spacious balcony were breathtaking. The hosts and their children were so friendly and accommodating. All of their suggestions (taxi drivers, boat excursions, restaurants, local attractions) were spot-on and helped make our vacation exciting and memorable. The breakfast was delicious and our room and bathroom were impeccably clean. Whether your stay in Zadar is long or short, I highly recommend Villa Ivana!
