Owner description: An excavation on the site of the 'Gornji ugao' tower, in the north-west corner of the walled city of Dubrovnik, in Croatia, uncovered evidence for a foundry established in the second half of the 15th century and largely producing armaments. It is a rare example of this type of industrial site, and its position within the city walls makes it unique. Excavation has provided information on the technical subdivision and spatial logic of the site. Activity at the foundry ceased after the Great Earthquake in 1667, which devastated the entire city, although part of the site continued in use as a foundry, on a smaller and more improvised scale.

This archaeological site shows where the old Foundry used to be. The main guy running the site was fantastic! He took us on a personal tour (about half an hour) and knew so much about the site and history. It was much better than walking around by ourselves would have been. The other reviews with directions are spot on and helped us to find the location. Definitely do not miss this. It is also a good place to get away from the crowds and get out of the sun for a little bit.

Hi and thank you for nice review! :-))

I am really proud to read that you think that my tour is fantastic! :-))

Hm, yes, we can say like that - this a quite often looks like a personal tour (about half an hour) - because this sight is not crowed like rest of Dubrovnik.
That's why generally I have time to dedicate to everyone who comes to see this underground archaeological site! :-))

Sureee - visiting this place is much better than walking around at your own!!!
This is archaeological site in situ which requests guided tour! :-)

That is right - other TA reviews with directions help a lot to find the location! :-))

Yes, this underground archaeological site is also a good place to get out of the sun for a little bit! ;-)

Popped into here as we noticed the great reviews on TA. Glad we did. Firstly it is easily missed as the location is fairly discreet, sort of hidden away in the corner of a basketball court (as per attached photo)! The guide (I believe his name is Divo) explained to us after the tour that there is a new more prominent entrance due to open in the coming weeks which will be great for the tour, and Divo is so passionate about what he does it's fantastic.

The tour itself is roughly 1 hour long, and well worth doing, especially as the entrance fee is only a modest 30 KUNA.

Gives an insight into the use of the area as a foundry, I personally found it really interesting as I like my history.

Hi and thank you for your detailed review! :-))

Yes, location is fairly discreet - what is actually very good - otherwise this sight would be flooded with a tourists like rest of Dubrovnik! :-)

Thank you for your praise for me! :-)))
Is really nice to read that you consider that my tour is fantastic! :-))

Yes, there are works going on to provide access from the bottom of Minčeta Tower.
I hope so that this new entrance will be open in July 2017.

When we will know more about that I will put information on TripAdvisor.

That is right - the entrance fee is only a modest 30 kn and for that money really is not possible to do much in touristic city like is this one.

Based on the Trip Advisor decided we made our way up to the Basketball Court in search of the door.

A little tricky to find, but thanks to the instructions on the other reviews we found it pretty quickly.

We arrived just after a tour had started, but the tour guide was happy for us to join in. We went into the ruins and had a very detailed lesson into how the Forge used to operate. Once finished here, some people on the tour left, which is when we realised that not everyone has started at the same time.

Following two more sections to the tour, learning more about the items they made in the Forge, my wife and I were the only two left. We could have left it there and been happy, but the Tour Guide went out of his way to take us back to the start and catch us up on the bits we had missed. He was very passionate and very interesting to listen to, incredibly polite and happy to answer any questions we had.

For such a small entry fee (30 Kn), can't help but highly recommend this place.

Yes - is a little tricky to find, but also thanks to good instructions on TA people can find this archaeological site in situ ! :-))

That is right - not everyone starts at the same time - because people come when they come, but soon we will introduce some changes how we could have better organization. :-)

Suree, in place such is Dubrovnik 30 kn is really small entry fee for such site and tour! For that price you can't get one beer in the city!

A hidden treasure under the basketball court. Givo the house was amazing. A great place for history buff. 30 HKR for entrance well worth it.
Other reviews on this site gives the details I don't need to expand on.
Bottom line- worth the hour guided tour of the excavated foundry
