If you want to stay within the old fortress walls of Dubrovnik, this is a great place to be. The entirety of the old city is within walking distance of your room. Darko picked us up at the bus station, which was very helpful since we did not have a car, and vehicles generally are not permitted in the old city. The mini-kitchen was very helpful, and unique among the Croatian apartments we stayed in. Yes, the rooms are small, but you are staying in a medieval fortress, so that's just how it is. Anka and Darko came by every day to check on things, and Darko had great recommendations for restaurants, things to do, etc.

Anka, a charming larger than life character and Darko, her son, run Rooms Vicelic. Their style is friendly and relaxed and they literally cannot do enough to make your stay one to remember. Anka calls everyone, without exception "darlink" which is very endearing.

Being in the old town this accommodation can only be reached by climbing 50+ stone stairs (quite a challenge for an asthmatic like me), natural light is at a premium due to the narrow alleyways and some rooms have low ceilings with large beams. However, all that being said, rooms are spotlessly clean, well appointed and very central - within a stone's throw of all restaurants and attractions.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful town but it does suffer greatly from the daily influx of cruise day trippers between the hours of 9 and 5 with sometimes as many as 5 liners visiting per day.

We made our escape to EastWest Beach Club just outside the city walls where we claimed sanctuary every day. A little pricey, but worth it.

Echoing much of what has been written before-- location is great, the owner is really nice and helped us find free parking, place is very clean. Our room is pretty small, but more than adequate. Room decor/ambiance is not great, but completely fine and clean. Bottom line: feel confident staying here, but suggest looking elsewhere if you are going to spend any real time in your room (which we were not).

Rooms Vicelic is excellently located just meters form the main street and provided a great place to stay. The owners were brilliant and could not have been more helpful. There is a small kitchen areas to make teas and coffee and beach towels are provided should you want to swim in the sea (it was cold in late April but great fun). Would strongly recommend Rooms Vicelic to anyone who wants to stay centrally located in the old town as we had a fantastic time.

This is not far from the main street and near lots of lovely restaurants. Bear in mind that all the steps in Dubrovnik will certainly work out your calf muscles!

It was certianly a good base for a few days to explore the walled city and the owners are very friendly and helpful. Lonely Planet’s review does not do this place justice as they’ve recently renovated several of the rooms and they are all kept very clean. It was nice to have a little kitchen area to prepare snacks and free wifi is very always welcome.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms are quieter and have been renovated

My fiancee and I took a 10 day trip to Croatia in May 2011. Our first stop was in Dubrovnik. We arrived after traveling for approximately 20 hrs. and all we wanted to do was drop our stuff off, take a shower, and explore. Unfortunately we arrived earlier than originally expected and the place was locked. Luckily my phone worked and we were able to call the number and someone came by within 5 minutes of our call to help us out, check us in, and show us to our room.

The room was on the second floor and had a double bed with a toilet and shower. The room was small and sparsely decorated, but cozy, clean, and charming. It also had air conditioning which was great considering it was very warm still during the nights. Anka, the owner (I believe) was very helpful in pointing us out to some of the eateries in Old Town and spoke excellent English.

Really though what makes this place is the value and its proximity inside of Old Town Dubrovnik. We were within a 5 minute walk of anything you would want to see and tour in Old Town and if we needed to drop something off at our room or get something we forgotten it was extraordinarily convenient.

I would definitely stay here again for the hospitality and service, great proximitiy to Old Town, and the value.

Room Tip: Second floor room has air conditioning
