Great location with amazing view. Possibility to swim, comfortable pool area. Breakfast bit clumsy - wouldn't call it cosy or enjoyable. Some problems with wireless connection. Meeting rooms without windows, which is probably good - you can't see tempting weather....

We stayed at this hotel in late September after travelling through Europe for 5 weeks. This was the highlight of our stay in Europe. The views are fabulous and although it is a 20 minute walk from Dubrovnik's old town (that said, a taxi ride or bus journey takes a few minutes), it feels like an escape to unwind. We found the staff excellent, in particular Maris, Goran and Natalia who we found incredibly knowledgeable, professional, friendly and courteous. In fact, during our stay, we had a mix up with our flights and Natalia went out of her way to help us. Breakfast at the hotel provides for a very wide selection with the freshest of food available. It was wonderful taking in the beautiful views in the mornings. Dubrovnik is absolutely beautiful and this is the perfect hotel to enjoy your stay in this magical part of the world.

So I booked a room here for my honeymoon and was nervous about the so-so or bad reviews that were mixed in with the good ones. I can see where the bad reviews are coming from... but unless you are obnoxiously picky these things are not going to bother you, you are in one of the most beautiful places ever, get over it! Pros: Almost all of the rooms have a balcony with an amazing view. The beach access area is AWESOME... I had been thinking about staying at the Hotel Bellevue (more expensive) which is next door because they have their own little beach but the 'beach access' at Rixos is way better, plus you can walk (or swim) over to Hotel Bellevue to use their beach if you really want to, but their beach is actually kind of hard/painful to walk on b/c its deep pebbly/stones. Great location. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly/helpful. Free breakfast with TONS of options to choose from, you will find something you like to eat. Cons: I agree that it was dark and sometimes smelled kind of weird in the hallways of the hotel, but this was never the case in my room, which was clean & comfortable, so I don't really care about the hallway. The restaurant by the pool/beach access is overpriced and the food there is just alright... but you really can't blame them for being overpriced because it is SO nice there you won't want to leave to get lunch elsewhere, having food options right there is convenient. There is an awesome restaurant right at the top of the driveway of the hotel called Magellan that is delicious and affordable, you could go there instead of the pool restaurant. :)

We booked this hotel all inclusive through Thomson.Hotel is in a great location about 15 mins walk into old city, front of house staff reception, porters and guest relations all very good, but waiting and bar staff without exception need to be trained to a higher standard had to constantly ask over and over again for the simplest of things i.e. knife, fork ,cup and it always seemed to be to much trouble never a smile . Stayed all inclusive given a list of what's included but the pool side bar was closed, poolside loungers put away, wooden floor taken up and outside pool full of stones all this despite every day but one being sunny 20c plus we had to go in the lift to the bar in main reception and carry drinks back down ( 9 floors up). Rooms nice, clean and spacious but you must book sea view or you will be missing the best thing about hotel. Food in main restaurant ok good choice of salads for breakfast lunch and dinner but the hot food was very limited and puddings very repetitive. Overall the hotel is fine and is probably 4 star but the service is 3 star but with some effort and training could make up some of its short coming's, but there is no defence for closing half of bars and restaurants' and not making some provision for guests that have paid for that facility.

Room Tip: must book a seaview

Stayed here for 4 nights. It is in a great location for thd Old Town -15 minutes walk, and for the new port area. The hotel looks beautiful and the rooms all have a magnificent sea view. Slightly smoky smell in the corridors and in parts the lighting was very poor. Overall roms very clean and comfortable. Had buffet breakfast which was plentiful but there seemed to be a shortage of staff as it was difficult to find a clear table, or coffee refills when needed. Ate the buffet evening meal once and although starters and puds were great the hot main courses were very disappointing.

We stayed Thomson full board between 6th and 13th October 2013. Flights to and from Birmingham airport were on time and hassle free. Pre-booked taxi transfers were on time and comfortable, Citroen Cross and Audi. Check in was quick and luggage taken to room. Room clean (and kept clean), spacious, with a balcony with sunbeds overlooking the outdoor pool and sea. The meals were ok. Salads, cold meats, cheese and croissants were very good. Unfortunately the hot meals let the mealtimes down. They are offered in canteen style stainless steel containers and sometimes were lukewarm not 5 T standard. The service in the main restaurant was slow and erratic; however the service in the Agora bar was exceptionally good. Our welcome meeting was adequate and but little was said about the bus passes and the surrounding area only the Old Town; we found out more about the area by walking around ourselves.
We had a meal in the Lalezar restaurant which was superb, but a bit expensive. However the Bela Vita bar and Azzur Fish restaurants were closed. The latter because of bad weather but with a bit of planning it could have stayed open. We have eaten outside quite comfortably at restaurants in the Far East with a downpour outside, it just requires side screens.
The biggest let-down was the Wine Tasting tour. It would appear that the object (and the guide said as much), was to drink as much as possible and get drunk.
The tour included a visit to two mills, the first was ok but the second was only visible through a small opening in a wall, but because it was completely dark inside it was impossible to see what was happening. It was only after I viewed a photo that I'd take with a flash that I could see the process. The remaining visits were to winerys', I'd like to say vineyards but as we did not see any processes it's difficult to confirm. The return trip took about an hour to the first hotel so how did our guide fill the time, not by telling us something about the 2000 year history of Dubrovnik but by having a singsong; On Ilkley Moor, Its A Long Way to Tipperary, etc. so you understand the tone. That’s fine if everyone joins in but as it took at least 10 minutes to get anyone singing and then only half a dozen or so, the guide should have realised it was not a good idea. The trip would have been far better if it had been to a smaller number of vineyards and more information had been given about the processes, where the grapes were grown and why, what we should be looking for in the taste, that sort of thing, and to fill the spare time with information about Dubrovnik. Also better arrangements for the mill visits, lighting, diagrams explaining what was happening, and what we were seeing. To be fair there were short talks but with a coachload of people trying to listen and with the rushing water it was impossible to hear.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Superior Double Room if you can. Book taxi transfers. Find out about the Bus Passes y...

I stayed at the Rixos last two weeks in July. Initial impressions good.

Food very good but can get a bit repetative. Staff round the pool bar area very helpful. However the attitude of the resteraunt staff leaves a lot to be desired. Constantly having to ask for tea spoons napkins etc. Several evenings tried to eat outside - non of the tables cleared. When I raised this with the Maitre D no explanations given and basically very rude.

The staff who oversee the pool will put their stock of belongings on the sun loungers then when you're looking for a bed they will remove this and take a tip. I saw this happen several times. Pool area is very crowded plus the hotel is open to others who wish to use it for the day, as a result you feel packed in.

The hotel has a good gym and I also used the spa which was great.

This hotel could be much better but some of the staff are grossly unprofessional and have a bad attitude letting others down who work so hard. If I were to advise one thing is to go all inclusive as very expensive if not
