This is a fantastic hotel. We only had a standard room (all get water views) and it was well appointed with a small balcony outside with two deck chairs on it.

Room was clean and well laid out and the bathroom was a good size and has a separate room for the toilet. TV was snowy and the reception was average. Air Cond worked well enough.

We had a buffet dinner included and it would be one of the best we have had. Same with the buffet breakfast.........it was fantastic. Staff are very helpful and food was awesome.

The hotel has a great fitness centre, spa facility, very nice swimming pool with many pool chairs and day beds. Mind you they need them as it gets very busy in the Summer. Hint: grab your sun lounge under an umbrella early, before the masses arrive and take them all. Swimming in the sea is lovely from the hotel with fresh water showers where you get in and out. They also have two sets of stainless steel ladders to climb out of the sea.

WiFi was good, but only real negative was that the hotel was 20 minutes walk to the old city.

Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Every thing was excellent, the food was great and the room we had with a sea view was just breathtaking. The staff were so friendly and helpful, I cannot say a bad word about it, except I had to leave to come home!

What a hotel! Pay the extra and stay here. You will NOT be disappointed. From the moment we walked through the entrance, we were welcomed and treated like royalty. The check-in process was simple and friendly, helped by fluent English speaking staff. The porters took our cases to our room in double quick time.
As we proceeded towards the lifts, the view across the bay towards Lokrum was spectacular. As was the view from our balcony. In our room the decor was fresh and easy on the eye. (Useful when you've had a few Ozjusko's) The bed was VERY comfortable. The WC and shower were separated, which is always a bonus, and fully stocked every day. (Just watch the pressure of the shower as the floor can be slippy when wet!)
Breakfast was buffet style in the Mozaik restaurant, and had a large selection of food to suit all tatstes. There was always ample food available regardless of what time we were there. If you choose the all-inclusive option, (we didn't), we fully recommend a night off the buffet to experience the delights of the Azzur fish bar. Their cuttlefish with black ink risotto is a must. Pavle was our waiter on the occasions when we were there and he was very friendly and helpful with the menu. As an added bonus, he was more than willing to chat about Croatia and it's history. During the day, the Azzur also offers lunches which are very varied and excellent value for money.
If you really want to push the boat out, (and we recommend the occasional treat for all romantics), we wholly suggest that you book a Royal Luxury Date in the hotel spa. Upon arrival, we were made welcome and treated as though we were special guests. We had a total of three hours in the room, which had a jacuzzi and it's own balcony too. (Without spoiling it, you must have a look to see what it offers) We recommend you try for a morning booking to make use of the balcony and the sunshine.
On the two occasions we had to use Guest Relations, the staff were very helpful and again, fluent in English. (Thank you Natalia)
Two slight downsides. We weren't overly enamoured with the charge for use of hotel sunbeds and umbrellas. And, if you arrive by car, there aren't a massive amount of spaces available, although we were fortunate each time.

Overall, we would look to book with Rixos hotels again, without any hesitation, and thoroughly recommend the Libertas in Dubrovnik.

Overall a very good stay. Excellent service, friendly and professional staff, We were especially pleased with the hotel restaurant Lalezar, which offers delicious food, a lovely atmosphere and a beautiful view. We wish to give a special thanks to the waitor Leonardo, who was extraordinary professional and helpful. We are definitely coming back to Rixos Hotel Libertas again, hopefully next summer.

*This is the review of a 34 year old bloke who went to Dubrovnik with his girlfriend*

I'd never been to Croatia before, although many people had told me it is 'lovely', so we gave it a shot. Overall we very much enjoyed the holiday, but it was not perfect. Here's a summary of how we felt about it...

- The Rixos hotel is quality. Really cool. We stayed in the second-best level of room, and while the sea view was arguably non-existant, the room itself was my favourite of all time, with a brilliant shower and nicely presented lay out. The top level rooms have balconies with sun loungers on. I wish we'd spent a bit extra...

- It's a 5-star hotel with a 2-star attitude. The 'Guest Relations' desk is hilarious, and presumably will act as inspiration for a skit or sit-com on ITV in the future. Three attractive ladies wile away the hours behind this desk, chatting up taxi drivers and avoiding helping the guests. A couple of doormen (make that one doorman) were worth tipping and very helpful. One doorman was an [--] until after we tipped him.

But ask one of the sexy ladies to charge an iPhone in an emergency, and be scowled out of the building (with a flat battery). Also, don't ask to iron your own shirts unless you really want them to hate you.

A further complaint about them - while sunbathing in a lovely little sun lounger-cum-whicker hand basket, the 'security' guys, or whoever the hell they were, walk around like they own the place, and pretty much stare at the girls, stand in the way of the sun or shout really loudly in your ear as they walk past. A slightly whiny, first-world-problem complaint I admit, but this is not what you pay for at a 5-star resort... it's like nobody bothered to tell the staff where they are...

- You can climb a ladder down into the sea from the sunbathing area. Sweet.

- The hotel is situated about a 10 minute walk to the old town, albeit up and down hill. The problem with this is, if you want to eat, you have to go to go for a ten minute walk in searing heat to find somewhere affordable (with the standard choice of burgers, pizza and pasta in most establishments).

As a result you will find it very tempting to remain in the hotel to eat, particularly at lunch. yet the price of lunch down at the bar near the pool is extortionate (club sandwich with a beer, Pasta dish with a Coke = £40.)

- Taxis cost a LOT. Two miles = £10. So you won't venture too far.

- There are buses, but not many people who choose to stay in hotels such as this will like catching buses. And it's hard to tell which bus to catch and where. You could ask guest relations, but you'd end up in Serbia.

- The posh restaurant in the hotel is well worth a visit, but if you thought the lunch menu was expensive... two steaks with sides of has brown and a bottle of wine? You're look at £150.

- The sun lounge area is fantastic. Couldn't fault it. Women on rollerblades deliver beer while you lie down. Very cool.

- Fantastic views. Hotel looks great at a distance too.

- Swimming pool was cold!

- Weather was stunning. Really hot but cool enough in the shade.

- Breakfast is included. And you can see why. Sure. there's a big buffet, but quality loses out to quantity. Play it safe with pastries and you are laughing. At a push, scrambled eggs on weirdly small toast. Sausages and bacon.. uuughhh. The weird choco cereal? Warm milk? No thanks!

Ultimately, this is really expensive stuff once you are out there. If money is no object, you might want to find a hotel in an area that has more to offer anyway. This is a lovely hotel if you plan on not doing much, but will get expensive once they have you inside. And because the employees act like angry children, it's a little harder to hand cash over without grimacing.

We sought a place in the sun to relax after a challenging year - and found it here. TA comments concerned us but were in the main unfounded during our stay. We stayed in a spacious comfortable room on level 11 with a spectacular view over the bay. Yes food and drinks here would sell better if less expensive (baker and mini market 3 min away solved this one - and why wouldn't you eat in the wonderful array of eateries in the d town?) We would have appreciated the room the other way round as the TV set into a box at the end of the bed blocked the stunning view. But these are fairly minor in the light of the amazing service, public areas, comfort of room, enormous balcony with great furniture and convenience of being 20min walk from the Old Town. We loved this slice of luxury

To start with.... if you have booked this hotel and reading some of the reviews below please don't worry, you will love this hotel and its staff!

Stars are given to hotels based on facilities - this hotel has many wonderful facilities, the spa, the gym, indoor and out door pools, 3 restaurants (maybe more we ate in 3) bars etc etc etc.... All I can say is if you want ''5 star'' then there are 5 star prices at the villa Dubrovnik, Excelsior, pucie palace and more..... this hotel is not cheap but is about £1000+ per room per week cheaper than the hotels mentioned above...

I went with family out to Dubrovnik for my wedding nr the old town, we stopped in this hotel because I work in the travel industry so knew the type of hotel i was looking, walk out of town, pool and not stuffy/snotty just a place to relax... and I got this at the Rixos.

I loved the out door pool and bar area, one day people were asking for more umbrellas and they are huge, watched the two staff struggle out with 4 extra to accommodate. The sun beds were really nice with about 5 styles to choose from, standard ones, odd shaped ones you could push together, little ones with a canopy, 4 poster bed types and swinging chairs.... Never had an issue finding space!

The rooms... I agree with other reviews that say pay for the upgrade... the view from our room was amazing! the room what spotless, balcony HUGE and the bathroom ... I loved it. Some reviews have commented about the glass wall/window between the bathroom and the bedroom... all i can say is use the blind if your a bit shy or travelling with a friend!

I can recommend the turkish restaurant it was very nice, as were the breakfasts!

You can get free wifi in your rooms and at the pool - I would suggest listening to the reception staff when they explain it to you or you may go through to the option where you have to pay for it.

Price... Yes i found the drinks in the mini bar expensive, food and drink in general could do with being reduced and i think they would find this would encourage more guests to eat in the hotel in the evening, but the food was very good! I understand now Thomson are doing AI - if you have this then you will be happy! (PS if your AI and they ask you to sign that's normal in many hotels or you get to wear a wristband? i know what I would rather)

I would like to comment on the hotel staff... I would like to say a huge thank you to every single member of the hotel staff, every one me and my family met was courteous, smiled, polite and some went out of their way to be completely wonderful (I am sorry that 3 weeks after my trip i cannot remember you by name) to the ladies in the spa and the lady who i believe was customer relations who knew and remembered I had got married on the 18th June and stopped and asked me all the details - you was all very sweet, very kind and Rixos management they are a credit to you! Also thank you for the rose and champs on our wedding night and thank you for the cake and card on my birthday x

Would i recommend this hotel - YES to normal people... if you like looking for issues (like the in room safe door dose not open to its full abilities, not enough hangers in wardrobe etc) I suggest you either pay over the top prices in another hotel or accept that a large hotel will not get it 100% right so accept 98% and enjoy your holiday!

Room Tip: Room on high floor we was in room 1817 and 1816 - amazing views
