So will sum this up with pro's and con's as I could go on for ages! I wanted to give this a 3.5 rating- it doesn't feel good enough to be a 'very good'!
Friendly & helpful staff. We were upgraded to a beautiful sea view spa suite- which overlooked the sea, jacquzzi, large terrace. AMAZING VIEW! Bathroom was lovely and modern. The room was huge. Nice lounge next to bedroom to eat breakfast in. Tv had some news/ music channels but the views were better than anything we could watch! Shower was nice and had 2 separate toilets.
Easy 15 min picturesque walk to old town, felt safe, friendly people. Beautiful town!
Hotel bar has great views- inside and outside seating. Pool table for added random fun. Bar food was nice.
Good restaurant buffet, tasty food (but only did it the once as sort of felt like we were on a cruise ship!) Good price for the size of room- we had originally booked executive suite but were told that this spa suite had better views... hmmm. Wonder what the exec would have been like!
There's a better hotel restaurant next door- Bellevue I believe it's called!
Maintenance. Wasn't up to 5*. No way! Things just weren't working or were broken. Although we had an amazing room, it didn't make up for the fact that the fittings/finishing wasn't up to scratch, the wardrobe door handles kept falling off, they didn't even slide open properly. some lights weren't working. Jacquzzi wasn't working at first and was quite temperamental. Sun loungers looked old and dirty.
The decor in the rooms are minimal but its really lacking a 5* quality that's hard to explain. There's just not much in there or any sort of character! Horrid strip light above the bed too. I usually love spending time in a hotel room but wasn't fussed about leaving this to go exploring!
The heating! On the first night it was quite chilly, attempted to switch heating on, only to be told that as it's now summer (April), all of the heating systems are switched off. We were freezing! So got given 2 blankets. Random but it did the trick. Just wasn't what I was used to hearing from a 5* hotel!
Room service. On the 2nd day we ordered breakfast room service... took 1hr 30mins hours to cook an omelette, toast, scrambled eggs and bacon.
On the 3rd day, the room door tag had forgotten to be collected...after we realised that breakfast was 20 mins late- so phoned and somebody ran and collected it from our door. It took a further 1hr 15mins to cook the breakfast. Annoying.
Wifi only in Lobby.
To sum up:
Dubrovnik is such a BEAUTIFUL place. The people are superb, the food is great, the views are incredible (just go out of season- April/May or Sept- as apparently it gets rammed with cruises and tons of tourists).
This hotel should be downgraded to a 4 star. The decor in many areas are dated, the maintenance should be so much better too. The price is good which would be great if you are on a budget or just using the place to sleep/ quick eat but I wouldn't recommend the hotel if you are looking for 5* luxury.
