“Basic Tour Hotel In Dubrovnik”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2012

My wife and I stayed at this quiet hotel for two nights at the beginning and the ending of a tour of the Balkans. It is a short walk to Dubrovnik's Old Town. The hotel is not al all pretentious and the staff are quiet but helpful when queried. Breakfast and dinner spreads are basic buffet meals. The rooms were small, basic but comfortable.

When we arrived at this hotel in September 2012, to begin a bus tour of Croatia, our first impressions were not good. The hotel is situated in a fairly narrow street some distance from the town centre and our entry seemed unwelcoming and " cold". The man at the counter was surly but seemed to warm up after he asked where we came from and eventually was quite helpful.I think he might have been the " on duty" sole staff member on reception, probably because it was a Sunday and quiet. But our room was ok and they also have WiFi in the room which is almost a necessity these days. After we enquired we got a taxi into the town with any person who was also joining the tour, and it was reasonable( taxi fare) and good fun. We caught the bus home which was also easy and passengers told us where to stop. The meals in the hotel are ok but not great. The staff in this hotel are generally unfriendly. the waiter in the dining room was curt to the point of being rude. I suspect the staff are not yet equipped to deal with tourists but overall the experience was ok.

Very pleased with the hotel - on a bus route (5 minutes walk) to the Old town. also conviently situated close to Graz harbour (boat trips) and Lapad beach with good range of restaurants nearby. Had a large quiet clean room - extensive breakfast choice.

Nice but basic 3 star hotel... Booked late going to Dubrovnik and picked this place mostly cos anything left was too expensive. It was a good choice though... It is 10 mins on bus to the old town, a 5 min walk to lapad strip and 10 min walk to lapad beach... The hotel is nothing fancy... Breakfast is also basic but you have everything you need within short or very short walking distance ... I would recommend this for those going to Dubrovnik / lapad as a cheap but basic accomadation... however we spent time afterwards in cavtat and it is much cheaper there, you can still get the boat taxi to old town and overall I preferred cavtat which strongly recommend

We chose this hotel as it has garage. We came to Dubrovnik in a rental car and wanted a hotel with no problem getting a parking space.
The hotel is in walking distance to both city center, and the airport bus. Nearby the hotel there is a bus stop for local busses.
We stayed in 102 and the room was very large. It had air condition and safe. There are no mini-bar/fridge. The breakfast was very nice. The hotel has free wifi.

It was my first visit to Dubrovnik. The hotel itself is absolutely fine. Rooms are reasonable in size, clean shower and brand new TV set. Wifi is working and is free. Some of the front facing rooms in center part have a small balcony which is a nice addition. Breakfast is fine and includes all the standards. Parking is available as well. Downside is the location if it is just a short visit. The famous old city is a 10 minutes bus r
ide away. Manageable how less convenient.

I agree with some of the other reviewers that you do, indeed, get what you pay for. Hotel Ivka is clean and sufficiently comfortable if you are merely looking for somewhere to lay your head and sleep. In other words, it is decent, but certainly not spectacular or luxurious. Given that hotels in general are very expensive in Dubrovnik, though, Hotel Ivka certainly met our needs and we saved some money by staying here.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the hotel is slightly outside the main Dubrovnik attractions. My boyfriend and I attempted to walk to the Old City from the hotel the first night we were there and got lost, so wound up taking the bus, which was actually quite easy and convenient. The public bus is cheap, picks up just a few blocks away from the hotel, stops right outside the old walled city, and runs at a reasonable frequency during the high season. Thus, if you are willing to take a short cheap ride on the public bus, location really isn't a problem.

The room itself sufficed, but was not exactly the most comfortable thing in the world. My boyfriend and I were given a room on the top floor (the fourth floor if memory serves me correctly), which was not ideal. The top floor appears to be a converted attic space and the ceilings in our room were heavily sloped. Both my boyfriend and I wound up smacking our heads on the ceilings multiple times during our stay, which was painful and irritating to say the least (and I am tiny-- just over 5 feet tall, to give you an idea). In addition, the elevator does not go all the way up to the top floor, so we had to take the elevator to the third floor and then walk up to the fourth floor with all of our luggage. So, if you do end up staying at Hotel Ivka, try to get a room on one of the lower floors.

In spite of all that, though, (and especially if you can get a room on one of the lower floors), Hotel Ivka is a good option if you are looking for a decent, reasonably priced option for your stay in Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: Do not take a room on the top floor if you can avoid it. The ceilings are sloped on the top floor a...
