So some of this hotel is really great. For instance the new front pool with areas to lounge, the cafe Americano available. But the room we had was a little dirty, bathroom especially. Also no where yo put soap and shampoo in shower. Bed was not comfortable. Lighting in room was not satisfactory.
Good location and close to bus stop. Good breakfast.

1st impression was photos don't do it justice, lovely clean basic hotel, far enough away from crowds to get some peace and quie,t near enough to visit old town, port, beaches (pebbles or rocks) and restaurants, comfy beds for 1st part of week then the hotel had all mattresses replaced so were to firm for me personally, staff all very friendly and helpful, food was good too plenty of choice for breakfast, sausage, boiled, fried, scrambled egg, bacon, selection of cold meats, fruit, cereal, bread, rolls, the restaurant in the evening has a small but very nice menu, the steak and veal were excellent, pool is not huge but nice enough for a swim to cool down and has Jacuzzi jets.our room was just a basic double without a balcony quite compact however suited us as we go to see the area not sit in our room,we had a sea view too, sheets changed 3 times and towels as requested,

When we arrived at this hotel, for some reason we thought we were nearer the old. However, after throwing our cases in the room as it was past 10pm. We had a stroll around the surrounding area and were pleasantly surprised at the amount of bars and restaurants nearby on single plaza heading towards the beach. It was busy but it wasn't noisy at all.
The hotel has a nice pool with 18 beds around, they provide towels for each bed, which is a bonus if you travel light. The room we stayed in 405 on the 3rd floor was pleasant and very clean with comfortable beds. The room also had a minibar and the bathroom was quite big. The view wasn't that good overlooking someones back garden but we were only here for a few days so we could live with it.

Breakfast was self service with plenty of choice.

I would definately stay here again as we plan on coming back to the area in a few years to continue exploring this beautiful area.

Room tip: Disabled people might find it difficult getting around this place

AQUARIUS HOTEL, Lapad district, Dubrovnik. Small, 24 room. No signs of anything Monarch with whom we booked! We didn't even get greeted on arrival, didn't receive any welcome pack, and never saw anyone Monarch whatsoever!
Stayed at the location 26/5/17 a 1/6/17.. The hotel is in the Lapad area of Croatia, 4km approx from the old town.
We used Croatiatransfer.cr for transfer to hotel from airport. They were late and not waiting with name board in hand on our arrival as we were informed they would be! Airport staff rang them on our behalf. Driver arrived, apologised and we arrived at hotel some 1.5 hours after landing.
First impressions of the hotel were that it was nicely placed, approx 300m from Lapad beach. You cannot use it however – they are building a huge hotel – right on this part of the beach. The noise is incessant!
Take the left turn Street and walk past the building work on your right to the zebra crossing. – take access steps to very stony beach which has sun beds plus parasol 80 kruna a day. Tip. Buy a cushion for your sun bed whilst walking to this area. The sun beds are uncovered, very hard and uncomfortable! There are jet skis, pedaloes and kayaks to hire here too.
There is a plus, the Aquarius hotel does have a small (unheated) swimming pool, but the same sun bed, no cushion cover, but towels are supplied.
Room was spacious, split into two, bedroom and nice lounge area. Both areas have aircon, however units were very noisy, which in the bedroom wasn't a problem as the patio doors to the balcony allowed cooler air in, especially at night.
Bathroom. If you like big, not for you! Very small. Good shower pressure both hot/cold, but very cramped shower booth with doors that kept lifting off the sliding rails when you tried to close them!
The sink tap – not fixed to the sink properly!
No shower toiletries other than a very poor hair shampoo, and a very small bar of soap. Towels, thin, grey and dingy. The swimming pool towels were far far better!
Balcony. If only they had cleared the broken glass on it prior to our taking up the room. Nice size, table and four chairs. But broken glass! Imagine your kids running and playing on that balcony on arrival. And although I picked up what I could, that balcony was not swept all the time we were in situ, a week!
So, cleaning. Hit and miss! More miss!
Wifi. Slow. Very!
TV. Satellite. Not one English speaking programme, not even the news! In fact there isn’t anything for a British traveller to watch. As the receptionist informed us when she came to our room to show us how to use the system/TV, it's a very basic TV package the hotel has! She wasn't kidding!
Which leads me all to believe that although this hotel is being used by Monarch, it is in fact a transit hotel, a short stay establishment. They were surprised on our check in that we were staying there for a week, and the turnover of overnight/two day guests whilst we were there was heavy. It really does appear to be not a long stay venue!
Breakfast – well, poorly presented to say the least with very little choice. Same thing every day. Very very disappointing. For an establishment that suggests it has an award winning restaurant, (not to be muddled with the Aquarius restaurant in the old town) it was uncannily very empty come evenings and lunchtimes, unlike those nearby. Tip, Lapad restaurant opposite, is excellent, good food, great value, served with a smile and the Atlantic kitchen, take the 141 steps from the pedestrian street to the restaurant. You won't be disappointed!
There are many other restaurants and bars close by, in the pedestrian walkway. All seemed busy!
Bus to old town takes approx 10 mins, 4 kuna return. Bus Stop at top of pedestrian area, to right. Buy ticket at booth at stop. When you get on bus put ticket in stamp machine. Your done. Try to avoid old town when the cruise liners are in port!
Turn right from hotel entrance and walk short distance to top of hill. Opposite is hypermarket (and bakery). Sells everything for the intrepid holidaymaker.
As a seasoned traveller, I liked the Aquarius. It's in a quiet area and really well placed. But unfortunately they do not seem to have listened to their customers and reacted at all to previous visitors trip advisor comments. They have much to learn, and they need to listen and react to what is being said, particularly regarding their breakfast policies and food presentation, and if a room is to be serviced, then do it and do it properly!

Would I recommend to you, NO, I’m afraid not. There appears to be far better choices in the immediate area. It was very disappointing. Would we use it again, NO. It really is not a long stay holiday venue!

Room tip: Rooms at front overlook pool.

Only stayed here for 2 nights, and it was very relaxing and peaceful. Very friendly and helpful staff. It was nice having breakfast outdoors and not hearing much at all in the way of traffic noises, etc. Good location, close to the beach and a good number of restaurants.
