We decided that we didn't want to take the three island cruises as advertised everywhere in Dubrovnik for 250 kuna. Instead, we wanted to only go to Lopud for the day. We did our research and found that you can take the ferry there and back for 49 kuna from the new port. We took a cab from Lapad to the new port for 70 kuna and easily bought tickets for the journey- the first boat leaves at 10- be sure to get there early- the boat fills up quickly and some people had to stand for the whole trip. We were lucky and had seats. Once we arrived on Lopud we took the scenic route up the mountain to the beach, past several ruins of churches- the views across the bay is amazing- definitely worth the climb. Be sure to pack water though- it got quite hot! We arrived at the beach and had time for a drink before choosing a sunbed. For 2 sunbeds and an umbrella, they charge 90 kuna. The beach is great- the shallow water is warm and it's so clear- this has to be my favourite beach yet! The hike to the beach was about an hour and 20 minutes- in the way back we took a little golf cart taxi back into town- this was 20 kuna per person- totally worth it- as the sun was still baking at 5:30! We got the 6:55 ferry back- this was of course chaos- as all the tourists wanted to get to the front and pushed. We chose seats on the bottom, to easily exit once we got back to Dubrovnik. Totally great day! Do it!!!!
