“Visit too short.......”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Had an organised tour within our holiday, spent only a little free time here, not long enough really. Much to see, such a good rejuvination by UNESCO its hard to see where the damage was done and where the restoration had taken place its so perfect.
Lots of little streets and alleyways to explore, open market place selling fruit and veg and Lavender which seems popular for tourists.Beautiful harbour with excursions to some of the many islands and taxi boats to and from different resorts.Very pleasing resturrants and little tasteful shops within the main street.History everywhere.

“beautiful but overcrowded”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

this town is beautiful, but becomes a museum with nothing really authentic - a huge cash machine where everything has to be paid except the view - ugly items in all shops (mostly imported from china) - it is a pity but business has to go ahead - the entrance of the old town is free today but I bet there will be an entrance fee within the next 10 years..

“A working medieval town”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Great place to stroll around. Still a working walled town after many centuries. You can enter for free and many places inside are also free. Plenty of cafes and bars - ones on the main street are dearest! The harbour is a working one and is picturesque. You can walk through the harbour and out to rocky outcrops. Some parts of the city walls are accessible for free too. You can take boat trips from the harbour to various places, including the town of Cavtat - well worth doing for around £8 return.

“Pristine streets..all in all just delightful”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Entering from the main Pile Gate the Old Town is entrancing. The main thoroughfare polished with the passage of thousands of feet..ancient and modern! All the little streets off this main one are worth exploring....you are never more than a few feet away from cafes, Konobas ( what we'd call a bistro), restaurants and icecream shops. There are some quality outlets here too such as Max Mara & Marella . We went to a gallery called Warphoto.....about 5th street on the left off Placa from the Pile Gate entrance. It shows photographs of the war years affecting Croatia from 1991-1999 with very informative accompanying notes. Not easy viewing but gives more of an insight into the Balkan Wars.

“Fabulous”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

No cars makes walking in old town a lovely experience. The town seems to be at its lowest in the middle and anything off the main streets means lots of stairs. Do yourself a favour and sit at one of the little restaurants a couple of fights up then watch how many stairs the waiter climbs to bring your food
