We were staying at the Grand Hotel Park and there were a number of restaurants to choose from along the pedestrian walkway to the sea right by the hotel - we chose Hotel Dubrovnik based on their menu and helpful staff, What a smart choice! It was so good we went back and ate there again the next night too.
Warning, they do have a "cover charge" per person which is pretty prevalent in Croatia - we treated this like a service charge so it didn't bother us. But the food and service more than make up for that charge too. Plus they bring you a complimentary appetizer/starter with a large basket of bread - ours was a fish paste that seemed to me like a very creamy tuna fish, I ate both mine and my husband's since he was having a whole pound of sea bass as his main course. That alone was worth the cover charge of 18 kuna each.
I had the most delicious vegetable soup and a cheese assortment while my husband had an order of fries along with his fish. Have to say the potatoes in Croatia/Slovenia have so much flavor you don't even need salt on them.
The whole sea bass was prepared per my husband's preference (just grilled with a little oil). Normally they use a lot more oil and lemon on it but they were happy to accommodate his wishes. The next night I opted for the soup again although it was different than the prior night, it still was great. Then I tried the spaghetti bolognese while my husband had lamb which was wonderful.
Both evenings the waiter was helpful with just the right level of attentiveness and they do take credit cards. In Croatia, if you sit inside, smoking is not allowed whereas it is allowed when you sit outside. For us it wasn't an issue since it was the end of the season and the restaurant wasn't busy.
