Similarly to an earlier review, we were originally booked at the hotel Excelsior however our crappy travel agent got it wrong and somehow cancelled the booking! Luckily they were able to move us to this hotel which is their sister hotel. They staff were very friendly and we were upgraded to a junior suite which provide an additional living area separate to the bedrooms. We also got the equivalent of two balconies on the 8th floor which gave us excellent views of the islands, the ocean and straight in front of the sunset.
We loved the inside swimming pool and spa area. We also loved the amazing outside pool and sun deck area.
We did not love the food. Every choice we made was not a great one however we found this throughout Croatia so jot sure if we can blame the hotel for this.
We also did not love the fact that it was so far away from other sites and restaurants. The bus service was very good but when on holidays I like to be able to step out on the street and go for a nice walk to other choices. This was not the case here and many times we found ourselves stuck to eating a the hotel, or just not eating!
A great place for a restful holiday removed from bulk traffic, not so great if you want to be out and amongst it all

We have just returned from a week in Dubrovnik booked last minute, we had originally been booked into the Rixos Libertas but were changed to the Dubrovnik Palace two days before we travelled and assured by the agents that this was a superior hotel to the one originally booked, though both were rated as five star by the travel agent. Do not rely on the rating or the trip advisor information given by travel agents look on the official trip advisor site for a realistic and accurate review of any hotel!
Dubrovnik is a beautiful place especially the old town and hill fort but prohibitively expensive, you need a lottery win or a second mortagage as prices are equivalent to Switzerland or London, £2.50 for a small bottle of Sprite soft drink and £3.50 for a bottle of beer. On the plus side the hotel was only ten minutes from theold town and the local bus service was reliable, clean and reasonably priced.
The Dubrovnik Palace was a disappoinment, food quantity and quality was poor served up lukewarm and a number of guests including ourselves complained to the travel rep on site after which there was a slight improvement for the last couple of days of our stay. However the restaurant then failed to advise of food choices leaving guests to beleive that there was only one choice of freshly cooked fish rather than a fish or a meat choice, we gained the distince impression that they were trying to avoid serving the fresh meat as this had been put out of sight so was partially concealed from view.
The hotel had closed down the two snack bars so there was no where to buy lunch or any sort of food outside the set meal times unless one used the restaurant or room service, at £11.50 for burger plus a charge for room service this was not at option plus the quality was not good.
The other restaurant open at lunch time served a very limited and expensive menu, we ate there twice, the second time I ordered prawns which when they arrived had not been properly cleaned or deveined, the black intestine had been left in them and I had to remove them myself, they were obviously frozen as they were watery and tasteless. We ate out in the evenings on two occasions despite being half board and we went out to Lapad each day for lunch.
All drinks in the hotel were extremely expensive, a large glass of beer was £5.00 plus whilst a small bottle of still water was £1.40
The maid service was hit and miss with the turn down service being unpredicatable, cleaning was acceptable but again not of the standard expected in a hotel of this rating. Dirty glasses were left in the room for three days and no clean glasses left, after three days we complained and the dirty ones were taken away but only half replaced, after a further two days we had to complain again about the failure to replace dirty glasses with clean ones. The complimentary tea in the rooms was not replaced we had to resort to buying our own teabags and milk or use room service, the dirty tea cups were then removed and not replaced with clean ones until we again drew this to the attention of the reception staff.
This is not what we expect of a five star hotel, bathrobes in the room do not constitute a five star hotel, the standard and quality of all services should be consistent and in line with what is promised in the brochure, this hotel failed to justify the price paid or the rating given by the travel agent, buyer beware

Just arrived back from one week B&B at the Dubrovnik Palace Hotel and was really pleased with our stay. We were in room 517 and the views over the bay and out to sea were lovely and the sunsets - what can I say - absolutely gorgeous. Recommend sitting on your balcony in the evening watching the small fishing boats gather for sunset and the huge cruise liners leaving (around 6.30 pm Croatian time) - amazing sight. Our room was clean and tidy and the staff are great - nothing is too much trouble. On arrival we asked for a kettle for our room and within 15 minutes we received kettle, coffee, milk and a selection of teas. These were restocked each day and no charge was made. We had room service once during our stay and whilst pricey (95kn for club sandwich and fries) it was tasty, and arrived fast and the food was piping hot. I would agree with other reviews in that the hotel has seriously outpriced itself when it comes to food and drink - a large local beer and diet coke worked out at just under £8.00 and whilst we did not eat in either of the restaurants we spoke to other guests who did and who described the food as basic and nothing special. The evening meal is buffet style and was 280kn per person. The breakfasts were good - there was a good choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurts, cold meats and cheeses, bacon, hot dog sausages, mushrooms, boiled eggs, and omelettes or fried eggs (freshly cooked when ordered) each day. There was also a selection of pastries and muffins, breads, french toast, croissants and rolls and jams/honey etc. You could help yourself to juice or water (cranberry, pineapple, orange and apple) and tea or coffee was served by the staff. The pool area is great and there were plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas during our stay which was perfect as the weather was lovely and warm (around 75 degrees). The "beach" area was good but the access to the sea could be easier- it was very slippy and because the sea is so stony it made getting in and out uneasy. The bus stops right outside the hotel and this goes into Old Dunbrovnik - the cost is 12kn per person per journey so if you go to the town and back it is 24kn per journey but well worth the visit - the Old Town (which is a World Heritage Site) is a definite must see and the walk around the walls is fantastic and I would heartily recommend this. On leaving must admit to being a bit taken aback when receiving the bill and noticed that we were charged 7kn each per night in "tax" - something that had not been mentioned when we booked the holiday or when we checked in. We ate at some good local restaurants in Lapad including Ottos and Nemo Problemo and check out my reviews for these. One word of advice when eating out at some eateries the meals will be shown as 65kn for the meal, I ordered chicken breast one night at one of the restaurants on the main street in Lapad and that is what I got - a chicken breast - if you want fries, rice, potatoes etc then this is charged extra (around 20kn) and salad between 15 and 25kn - bread will also be placed on your table and again you will be charged (between 5 and 10kn) and this can slowly bump up the bill. All in all though if you check out TripAdvisor and the restaurants recommended you will be fine - would defintiely recommend Lapad as a destination and Dubrovnik is fantastic and we will be going back - if you are able, hire a car like we did and visit Cavtat which is a beautiful.

Room Tip: Go for floor 5 or above for the best views.

We had a fabulous one week B & B stay at the hotel. Our room was lovely and very clean, the staff are courteous and very helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a good variety of fruit, cooked and continental breakfast. The pool is superbly located overlooking the sea. We could not however afford to drink in the hotel bar or eat in the restaurants. For example a 220ml coke = 28kn compared to 16kn in the local restaurants of 5kn in the local supermarket.

There is an excellent bus service from right outside the hotel into Old Town Dubrovnik, there are also a number of local bars and restaurants. We loved the hotel and would recommend it however if you want to eat there then look out for a half board option.

Room Tip: All rooms have a lovely sea view

Firstly thanks to all the TripAdvisor contributors as once again we based our decision as to where to stay based on the great feedback. We loved the location as we were looking for a bit of sun and relaxation and not much else and this really met the need.
We flew into Dubrovnik and at the last minute did an e mail booking with a car service who were fantastic - the price was the same as the advertised rates at the airport for a taxi (250 Kuna).
Whilst we enjoyed ourselves this is not a 5 star hotel and was a bit lacking character. The lounge area (with fantastic views) was laid out like an airport departure lounge with rows of chairs laid out in regimented lines - this effect is repeated in the restaurant on the 7th floor. The rooms were comfortable, the beds a bit firm and the decor lacked any real warmth or personality. The tiny TV stuck on a desk at the end of a long room really was not good enough. The lack of in room tea / coffee was disappointing, but free wi-fi was much appreciated.
The rooms were clean and well maintained and there was a 'turn-down' service in the evenings.Staff experiences were good in the main but the restaurants were probably the weakest aspect of the whole hotel - expensive and the service is not what is to be expected. We had a meal on the top floor at the 'health bar' restaurant which took ages to arrive and was luke warm when it finally arrived, and we walked out of the restaurant on the ground floor after standing waiting unacknowledged for about 5 minutes and then getting completly indefferent service. Breakfasts were fine but options were often exhausted (milk for cereal, bread, scrambled eggs etc).We found it better to catch the #4 bus (service every 20 mins) into the Old City or stroll down to Lapad where service and quality were much better.
That said, we enjoyed our time - the pools were in excellent condition and we enjoyed ourselves. This location is probably a bit quiet if you have young children but as a couple with no encumbrances we liked the location. Dubrovnik is a wonderful location and we would come back here again for short breaks.

We stayed at this hotel with a tour group; at dinner the staff we grumpy and we felt hurried as we had our meal. They obviously wanted to leave early. At breakfast, things were a little less tense, but in a way this spoiled our stay at this hotel, which is a shame, because this hotel has a wonderful position and amenities. Being with a tour group maybe the staff in the restaurant may have felt that they could be off handed and controlling, but it did not go over well with us.
