“Relaxing island 10 minutes from Dubrovnik”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

If you get the chance, take the regular ferry from Dubrovnik (just near the Old Town) to Lokrum Island. I only takes about 10 minutes and then you can spend the whole day wandering around the island, finding places to swim, and discovering relaxing spots for a sleep and/or picnic.

“relaxing after busy Dubrovnik”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

It is a protected nature reserve. You will find a beautiful landscape, forest and coast, some places are for swimming. Most citizens are coming for their daily swim.
In the park you will see beautiful plants, and peacocks. The island is not big and from the coast you have a terrific view on Dubrovnik. By boat only 10 minutes travel, every half hour.

“A natural h igh”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

If you are spending a few days in Dubrovnik and would like to get away from the tourist intensity, taking the ferry to Lokrum is a perfect counterpoint. The hike up to the old fort is worth the exertion (be careful on the rocky rubble) for an excellent view of the old walled city, and it will give you a better perspective on how Dubrovnik's location was a significant factor in its long history. There are lots of trails to hike around, and ruins of an old monastery, some nicely groomed gardens and a large number of roaming peacocks add to the interest. The "beaches" are mostly rocky, but the water is generally quite comfortable, and a mask and snorkel will reveal some interesting underwater life. One end of the island has a nude beach (okay, nude set of smooth rock slabs leading down to the water) where you can help titillate the passing boats of tourists. I really enjoyed breaking up the time in Dubrovnik with a day here.

“Day tripping nature walk”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

With four full days in Dubrovnik to explore, Lokrum was an excursion we planned to squeeze in. The ferry from the Old City leaves a few times a day and you can buy your tickets directly from the dock. When we went there was no risk of the boat being sold out but I imagine in peak season you may have to purchase them in advance.

A quick journey, the boat trip is relaxing and drops you off to a explore the vegetation and peaceful nature walk. The peacocks can be aggressive so beware, I did feed them so it was my bad!

Heading to the "Dead Sea" on the map to take a swim, my friend and I tried in vain to grab the dangling rope swing for some adventure, good luck to your crew, hopefully it is set up for some fun when you visit.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

The island is a short and pleasant boat trip you can take from the old town in Dubrovnik. The island is a nature park and the gardens are worth a look round. You can walk round the island easily during the day and you can relax and take a swim in the rocky area on the far side of the island.
