Good value for a day trip. I went here on a Saturday and spent a few hours on the island. I relaxed on a huge rock (no sandy beaches here) and read a book for awhile. There is a restaurant and a couple small bars throughout the island that sell snacks and drinks. There are wandering peacocks all over, it was really cool to see. If I did it again, I would pack a beach bag with a towel and lunch.

So if you are into the great outdoors and loads of locust noises and a find swimming hole, go here! If you are into more action, you will be disappointed.

We took the boat out ot Lokrum Island, a short trip from the main harbour. The monestry and bontanical garden are worth a visit, and the 'dead sea' a warm and inticing place to take a dip. Lokrum also has one of the largest and well used naturist beaches I have ever seen! In fairness, it is on a secluded part of the island so those wishing to avoid it can easily do so.

What an amazing place.
Totally hidden away from Dubrovik's crazy tempo lies this island paradise. Filled with hidden coves, rocky paths, botanical gardens and an old monastery. Near in mind this isn't a theme park! There are two or three "shops" / cafes with just the bare essentials but you can find a quiet corner and sunbath alone or explore a rocky outcrop in peace. There are wild peacocks roaming around along with lots of butterflies and even the odd gecko.
I loved it!

A short ferry ride delivers you to the island. Go early if you want to hike up to the fort at the top of the island, because it can be quite hot. The trail is rocky so wear shoes not flip-flops. The botanical garden itself was low-key, with a good eucalyptus collection and lots of cacti. The peacocks were nesting in August and we saw many baby peacocks with their moms. Bring a picnic lunch and find a flat rock to spread out and enjoy the beach for the afternoon. There is good shade over many parts of the beach area, so you can stay for hours. In my opinion, this is a much better choice for an island-day than the further and more expensive trip to Miljet.
