Tucked into an alleyway this restaurant is quite good. We enjoyed the unique menu (as mentioned -- the "fake" pizza is awesome) especially because it was our 8th night and, though we love peka and octopus salad, sardines, etc., we were ready for a change of pace. Attentive waitstaff plus owner surprised us with a special dessert topped with a blazing sparkler for our 25th anniversary! They took our photos and emailed them to us the same night. Treated us like royalty.

Gil's was by far the most expensive meal we had in Dubrovnik - in fact I would say it was at least twice to three times more compared to all the other meals we had. So the question is, is it twice or three times better? Unfortunately not but don't take that as being bad - its not, its just that it may not be worth the dollars.

So to the review, this place is as advertised by other reviewers - food is well seasoned, well cooked and nicely presented. We took the set menu and it was actually one dish too many. Of the meal, our favorite were the scallops - its cooked perfectly and was seasoned perfectly so that you taste the main ingredient in all of its glory. All of the other dishes and dessert was nice too. Re: wines - the reds we had were nice but definitely big city prices - some were the equivalent to $20 ~ $25 USD per glass for a Croatian wine. I could certainly understand if its a nice glass of Bordeaux or Barolo but personally I didn't think the quality justified the price.

If you're going to try Gil's then either make rez. or come early or late. We arrived at 7:30 and got lucky with seats as all tables were full by 7:45

Like a lot of restaurants in the old city this little gem is tucked down an alley. No views but the quality of food makes up for that. The 'fake pizza' was amazing - do try! We then had the steak for which it is famous - truly excellent as were the hand cut chips! Certainly not cheap but worth it. Good wine list and attentive but not obtrusive service.

We came here after reading some great reviews and it lives up to them. Attentive service, a novel for wine and great food. We had the 6 course degustation meal which was amazing. A must try for a nice meal.

Gil's Little Bistro serves gorgeous food - carefully prepared & beautifully presented. This is why it is a little more expensive than many of the 'hundreds' of restaurants in the same area of the old town.
The scallops cooked in their shells with foie grasse were mouth wateringly lovely! The slow cooked beef with side dish of pasta was beautifully tender & the chips were excellent too.
We ate at several restaurants during our stay in Dubrovnik & this one was streets ahead in terms of quality, taste & price. The others were good but not memorable.
PS. you might need to book.
