“Efficiently run, friendly staff, relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

Firstly the good things;- the bedrooms and bathrooms are well fitted out, the staff are efficient and friendly, very helpful. It is not a hotel catering for children so was nice and quiet by pool and in garden.
It was good value.
It was spotlessly clean.
The not so good - standard rooms are small, not much room at base of bed between furniture and small hanging wardrobe space.
Breakfast and dinner are served as a buffet and food is not warm enough.
Dining room lacks character and only one side of the building has a view - of the pool.
There are only a few tables for two at the edge of the restaurant others are grouped in fours.
The swimming pool is very cold and the towels very small.
It is the other side of the hill from Lapad main resort but is quiet.

Overall we liked the hotel, we reluctantly went with a package tour operator as we booked only a couple of weeks before departure and the hotel own site said they had no availability - they do seem to cater mostly for package holiday makers (as do most hotels in the area) hence the buffet dinner which we don't care for. We were however once there, able to upgrade to a suite from the standard room with balcony. Neither had much of a view but that didn't worry us, unless you like staring at cruise ships that look more like apartment blocks I wouldn't bother about a room with a view. The suite (205) was very comfortable having a sitting room in addition to the bedroom, a spacious bathroom two wardrobes (take extra clothes hangers if you want to hang several things) and an extra WC and washbasin.
It also had a terrace with two chairs (balconies are only big enough for one chair). The only thing we missed was tea making facilities for early morning. It had a view of a small garden area and you could see the sea between buildings. It was a quiet and convenient location not too far from reception.
A lot has been said about the lifts and stairs, we never went right to the back of the hotel so can only comment on what we found. From reception you can either take the lift to the 1st floor or walk up the wide elegant staircase. Once there you walk on a short light and airy corridor which links the buildings and then take a lift to where you want to be (or in our case we used the stairs as we only had one floor to go).The lifts are modern and efficient and we never had a problem.
There is a terraced garden area through an arch from the pool where there are also loungers and give more shade if you need it (it was too hot some of the time we were there in early October). I think meals are also served here in the summer months (a la carte). There was no a la carte option when we were there apart from the bar terrace by the pool which was very good for lunchtime food. Having tried the buffet the first two nights we then went out to local restaurants. Orcan at the yacht club just a short distance from the hotel was lovely (turn left out of the hotel follow the road keeping to the right and it is through a door in the wall on the right.) Tables are arranged right by the water with boats moored, candles on the table and excellent fish dishes. We also tried the pizza restaurant next door to the hotel who serve a lot more than pizza on the roof terrace and is good value. Lapad itself - (left out of hotel left again up the hill cross at roundabout and down the pedestrianised walk) has lots of restaurants and hotels we didn't find anything special there though.
We understand the hotel plans to build an indoor pool, conference facilities etc on adjacent land so that they can stay open through the winter months.
I would go again but only on a b & b basis in a larger room/suite, and independantly.

Room Tip: Go for space rather than view if you want to be comfortable and have enough storage unless you plan...

Just got back from a 4 night break at the Hotel Lapad Dubrovnik. We were a family of 4 and everything about the Lapad was superb.
Bedrooms are spacious and clean and our rooms had a side view of the harbour. The bathroom was modern and the shower/bath seemed like new.
The balcony was a bit small but OK.
Dinner and breakfast at the restaurant was fine, and the waiters friendly and eager to please. We like the fact that not everyone speaks English, but they do try their hardest.
The setting is brilliant and you can watch the cruise ships as you lounge by the pool.
We didn't have a problem with sun loungers, as mentioned in previous reports, and the enclosed garden next to the pool is lovely and quiet with plenty of sunbeds.
The hotel is just the right size. When you go down to breakfast for instance, it didn't seem as manic as it can be in larger hotels, just nice and relaxed.
Overall we cannot wait to return to Croatia. The coast is stunning, the people friendly, and the weather just right.
Also we found that the price of eating and drinking out are very reasonable.

My wife and I had a really enjoyable stay. Breakfast really good with all you can eat of a whole variety of food and drinks. We had a superior room with excellent views of the harbour and I think this was important. The room was not large but very well appointed with lovely bathroom, safe, TV, tea and coffee. The picture on the TV not great but this only bothered me during the Liverpool v Udenesi footy match - you don't go on holiday to watch TV.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The location could not be much better - right by a beautiful harbour and within a 10 minute bus ride to the old city plus a 20 minute walk to a beach on the other side of Lapad. Buy the 7 day Dubrovnik pass- available at the hotel - worth it for the free bus travel alone.

Room Tip: We had a room on the top floor (3rd) of the old building overlooking the pool and harbour. The view...

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Lapad on a half board basis for the second week in September and found it delightful. The food was plentiful, tasty, and offered a huge choice for both breakfast and dinner without the frequently-encountered problems of things running out or being overcooked. The staff were almost all helpful and friendly; most of them spoke excellent English (and other languages) and if one or two of them were a bit less than cheerful in the mornings this can probably be explained by the hard jobs they have to do and did not affect our overall impressions.

The hotel building is beautiful with some lovely artworks – we stayed in a room in the new annexe with a large balcony space running right round the corner of the building. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and reasonably spacious. One or two small problems arose with the designer’s vision – for example, the various lights are controlled from a panel on the wall opposite the bed and one next to it. This means that one party has all control and the other none, so if one of us wanted to read in bed whilst the other slept, it was awkward. There is a set of bedside drawers only on one side of the bed, so the other person has nowhere to put book, clock, spectacles etc. There is a panel behind the bed with a lovely picture of a boat on water, printed onto padded fabric and acting as a headboard. This is surrounded by a wooden frame, but the bed was offset to it so every time my husband rolled over he hit his head on the frame. As often happens, whoever designs these rooms clearly does not actually spend a night in them to see how it all actually works in practice.

The bathroom area does have glass doors as has been mentioned by other reviewers, but this is at 90 degrees to the bed so you’d have to make an effort to see what someone was up to – and there is also a frosted glass door that can be slid out between the “bed” and “bath” areas for extra privacy. The bathroom itself was stylish and well-stocked with the towels changed daily. There is a shower on a hose and also a fixed “rain”-type head which sadly was too low for my husband who is quite tall and could not comfortably fit himself under it.

We used the swimming pool a few times as it was quite quiet although there were still a lot of people using sunbeds around it – we did have thunderstorms for half the week so that defeated even the most ardent sun-worshippers. When we went, there was a not a single child in the hotel (which pleased us greatly - and we are not old fogeys although we were not the youngest people there) – I would imagine that in the height of summer, with even a small number of children, this could be a less pleasant experience as there is not a great deal of space in the pool area.

As mentioned by others, the road outside is one-way so the bus can be caught in a number of places – we walked to the Old City and back more than once as it only took about 40 minutes’ gentle stroll. Buy tickets for the bus at the hotel as they are cheaper than on board. We bussed to the Old City and back and also to Cavtat for a day, and walked round the Babin Kuk peninsula and the harbour – the countryside and sea views are beautiful.

We will probably not go to Dubrovnik again as we feel we have seen all we wanted to, but would have no hesitation in recommending others to both the area and, particularly, the Hotel Lapad.

This hotel lived up to all our expectations. The reception area was spacious as were the hallways, decorated with charming paintings and everywhere was spotlessly clean. We paid extra for a side sea view and weren't disappointed. Yes the balcony was small but it could fit two chairs and the view of the sea where the cruise liners slid in, along with the sun rising over the hill each morning made it well worth the extra. The bedroom itself was very spacious and modern, especially the bathroom with two types of shower over the bath and very modern fittings. We only had breakfast in the hotel and found there was more than enough of everything each day. A huge variety of both hot and cold dishes were on offer and replenished instantly. One small complaint was that while teapots and a variety of different tea bags were on offer, coffee was served by only one person from a thermos jug and it varied each day in strength and temperature. The server was also not always in sight. Coffee machines should be available for guests to make their own type of coffee and to be able to make it how and when they like. That apart we had a wonderful week and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Worth paying for a sea view.

Hotel Lapad is in the harbour in Babin Kuk and is a wonderful hotel. From our balcony (not very big only 1 chair and a small table) we had views of the harbour and all of the cruise liners that were docked. This is important if you want to avoid 'really' busy times in the old town don't go when there is a MSC or other big liner in.
Amenities at the hotel are good:
swimming pool - small but nice with enough beds
Restaurants - we only had breakfast but it was very nice
Rooms - our room was a good size (801) but took 3 elevators to get there and you couldn't change the settings on the the air con! it was set for about 23' which is warmer than my house in winter! we asked them to turn it down but they couldn't so gave us a second card to leave it on all day.
The hotel is walkable to and from the old town. There is a reasonably steep uphill on the way there but downhill into the town. Alternatively the buses run every 15 minutes or so late into the night and cost 12 kuna (from hotel and 15 kuna on the bus. There is no crime in Dubrovnik so we felt very safe all of the time.
A few tips:
Old town - get there early and climb the walls the view is fantastic
Cable car - get up there the view from the fort is breathtaking and the history is humbling, I have a great deal of respect for the Croatian people now
Boat trip - we went to Cavtat, about 40 minutes and not the best views of the coast but the town is delightful. Walk around the headland and have some lunch.
Pedestrian area - we didn't find this until 2nd day but out of hotel, turn left and bear left at 'wind' walk to the top and over pedestrian crossing. lots of lovely restaurants and bars.
Restaurants - Amfora (opposite hotel) is excellent and a little higher class. Buono (on the way to pedestrian area is fantastic, good food and good wine. Have a nice glass of wine at D'Vino in the old town, worth it :-)
Segway - have a go they are great fun, look for them at the Palace Hotel. Nicolina is lovely

Room Tip: If you choose a higher room you may be in the new part and will have to take 3 lifts to get there.

We stayed at the Lapad Hotel for 4 nights, it was a wonderful experience from the moment we arrived. The reception staff could not do enough for us, they where really helpful. as where all the staff, from the cleaners on every floor, to the bar staff, and restaurant staff.
our room 808. had a side view from the balcony to die for, boats of all sizes passing by, every morning there was a new big cruise boat in port, and also we had a great view of the mountains. The room had a great bathroom, fully fitted with hairdryer, bath and shower, wash basin, phone, all the soaps shampoos, etc where replaced daily, as where the towels, The beds where comfortable, and extra pillows available, we had a mini bar / fridge. a nice 32 inch flat screen TV, the lighting was good, and the bed lamp had a dimmer switch. plenty of hangars for our clothes and lots of storage space, the room also had a safe, free of charge, which you put in your own digital code.
Every where was spotless, the lifts very clean, with air fresheners in them, The pool area although small was acceptable, it takes about 30 minutes on foot to walk to the Old City, uphill, for half the walk, and then downhill into the city, and of course the opposite on the way back, you can of course get the bus, Number 6, from the city back to the hotel, it stops right outside the Hotel Lapad. if you want to get the bus in to the old city you have to walk about 6 minutes to the bus stop, due to the one way traffic flow.. we walked almost every day, The bus can be very packed, in both directions, but they run every 10-15 minutes,
All in all i would recommend the Hotel Lapad to everyone, we wished we could have stayed another week. Cheers

Room Tip: ask for a room with a balcony and a sea view, overlooking the port, our room was 808.
