“Good location, 5 minutes to the old town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

Rooms were across the street in the "annex". Climb about 30 stairs, then 4 floors up. A lift would have been nice but the rooms were comfortable and clean. Breakfast across the street was good with great views of old town and Lorcum island. Staff member Robert was so helpful trying to locate lost luggage by Air France. We were leaving for a 10 day kayaking/hiking trip and 4 members of our group of 7 had lost luggage. Robert went out of his way calling the somewhat responsive airport over a 2 days...and he was partially successful! It would have been a lot worse if it had not been for his efforts. Many thanks from all of us.

Room Tip: Rooms in the annex across the street are not accessible by lift.

We loved this hotel, which has an authentic and historic feel while being clean and modernized. Our group of 6 especially enjoyed the rocky sunbathing area by the outdoor saltwater pool. Jumping into the sea and basking in the gentle waves was a special treat. The location is far enough from the old town to be a peaceful retreat yet close enough to easily walk in for dinner, shopping or other activities. Our 3 rooms were a bit small, and faced the road, but we didn't spend much time in our rooms. Toiletries were very good quality, breakfast was delicious and plentiful, views gorgeous from common areas. Pool staff were very helpful; it was not easy to get needed help from some of the reception staff (other than restaurant recommendations.) We would happily stay here again, as it was overall a lovely and relaxing experience.

Stayed 6 nights here wanting the chance to relax with some sight seeing mixed in. Didn't get off to the best start as the guy on reception was really miserable and unhelpful. Apart from that my family had 2 lovely rooms with a sea view. The only blemish was our room had a smell from the drains in the bathroom. When we reported it we were told it was due to the direction of the wind (never heard that one before).
Lots of choice for breakfast and good quality. Eat out in the evening so couldn't comment on evening meals.
The distance in to town is an easy 10 minute walk down hill, which is a real bonus as most hotels are a bus journey.
Overall lovely hotel with beautiful views and helpful staff.

We stayed here in July 2011 and enjoyed it so much we thought we'd break our no hotel/location twice rule so visited again in July 2014. The location is excellent being just a short walk into the old town, and it was so nice to get away from the crowds as Dubrovnik was even busier than last time. This hotel has lots of lovely well-lit communal areas with comfy seating, which was great for those rainy or overcast mornings and evenings. We sunbathed every day. Although we did have a few rainy mornings where the sea was so rough it covered the pool/sundeck area, the pool guys were great and just brought the beds to wherever you wanted them. Also, special mention for the beach bar manager. He was so friendly and accommodating of my frequent requests for iced tap water. There was plenty of choice for breakfast but no strawberries or scrummy chocolate cake this time, and you had to be quick to get the bananas before people pinched them for their lunch!
We found our room large enough, the toiletries were good and we loved our evening chocolates from housekeeping. My only slight gripe was that we found the bed quite uncomfortable. It was better when we changed the pillows for the ones at the top of the wardrobe but a softer bed would have been nice.

Only had a few days at the hotel but I am happy I stayed there. On the top of terraced gardens leading down to the sea the hotel offered a lovely relaxed place to sit and unwind. The water was too cold in April but the sea was crystal clear and I can only imagine irresistible in summer.

What an excellent hotel. When we first looked at Dubrovnik, we had a short list of two, the More hotel in Lapad ot the Argentina. What a wise decision as we also visited More hotel, which whilst lovely was of the beaten track and needed a bus ride to get into Dubrovnik old town.

The views from the Argentina were spectacular (courtesy of a see view room) and the hotel itself was clean, tidy, and very respectable. The rooms and common areas were immaculate and the breakfast area on the balcony was a pure delight with views to Lockrum, Cavtat and Dubrovnik itself. We were only sitting there last week (1st week of July) in glorious weather and stylish accommodation.

What a littel gem this hotel is. Recommended to anyone that cares about good stylish hotels.

Room Tip: The sea view rooms with Juliet balcony afford classical views of the Adriatic and Dubrovnik

We stayed for a week in this hotel in late June. We were surprised by the efficient but rather abrupt welcome on arrival but eventually put this down to a minor language problem as EVERY other member of staff was extremely friendly as well as being helpful and efficient. The location is up a hill above the old city which involves a 10 minute walk down and a rather longer one back at the end of the day or after an evening in the town; I am sure it is further away at night! The views over the sea are spectacular and I would always recommend a room with such a view if possible. We had a room on the top floor of Villa Argentina itself (i.e. the original building); it was spacious, spotlessly clean and well furnished with views from windows on two sides overlooking the bay. The bathroom was well appointed and again had a window overlooking the adjoining villa and sea. Our only complaint was that there was an occasional smell of drains which disappeared after a shower or emptying the bath. We did not complain as we did not wish to sacrifice the space and views for the sake of an occasional issue which we could easily resolve.
The buffet breakfast was delicious and offered an immense range of hot and cold food. Those who can face drinking champagne at breakfast time could indulge at will! Breakfast could be enjoyed on the dining terrace overlooking the sea, Lokrum island and the old town; what a wonderful start to any day! We ate in the hotel twice in the evenings when we had been out all day and could not be bothered to go down into town. On both occasions, the meal was well prepared and presented and delicious.
Overall the Grand Villa Argentina was a fantastic base for a holiday in, or near, Dubrovnik. It offered spa fitness and various sunbathing and swimming options but we did not avail ourselves of these options as we had too many other things to do. They all looked fine if that was what you wanted.

Room Tip: A modern annexe has been added to this hotel, but we preferred to stay in the original part of the h...
