We had actually booked the Grand Villa Argentina and were slightly put out when they cancelled a couple of days beforehand, I had to call the USA to confirm we were ok with them switching hotels for us and that cost a fortune. However when we got there, we were very happy. They had upgraded us to a sea view room with a lovely huge patio that we very much enjoyed. The room itself was quite small but the patio was so great, we spent most of the time out there. The bed was huge, very comfortable and they had great cleaning staff, everything was tip top. Great toilettries, slippers, no robe, internet worked very well, could really not have asked for more.
We ate at the sushi resturant, it was good but a bit on the pricy side but everything is pretty expensive at the hotel as is expected.
All staff we came across was very helpful and after coming from the worst staff ever, at the Perla in Herceg Novi, we were overjoyed. From the minute we walked in to the time we went out, they took great care of us.
Wonderful breakfast, huge range of options and they even had sparkling wine.
It is just a short walk to the old town, there is a mini market on the way if you need to stock up so that is handy. Be prepared for high prices in resturants in the old town, it did surprise me a bit, but you just need to look around and compare. Seems like they kind of know that most people wont be back so in a lot of places you wont get great service nor food.
The drive to the airport will set you back over 40 Euros, seemed a bit steep for a 20 minute ride.
All in all, if I do go back to Dubro, and have the money, I will definatly stay at the Excelsior again.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Since opening in 1913, the Excelsior has become an iconic landmark among the five-star hotels in Dubrovnik. This time-honoured building – a blend of old and new – is uniquely located on a cliffside, with magnificent views from every floor, over to the island of Lokrum in one direction and the Old Town in another. Recognised as one of the finest hotels in the Mediterranean by the UK’s Sunday Times newspaper, it is only when you visit that you can fully appreciate the spectacular setting: the tranquil gardens in which to stroll; four fine-dining restaurants, all offering panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea; a private beach, back-dropped by the UNESCO-protected Old Town. Among the luxury hotels in Dubrovnik, the Hotel Excelsior is the benchmark to which others aspire. ... more less
