Our favorite hotel to date! We stayed on the 2nd floor in a standard double room. There is nothing "standard" about this room. Terrific view from private balcony, super comfy bed and lovely bathroom. Beach was beautiful with great views and nice sun beds and umbrellas. Food on hotel grounds was excellent, and staff was really friendly, especially Elisabeth in the main dinning room. We will be back for sure!

My husband and I stayed at the Valamar President for 4 nights from 3 July 2014. We stayed on the first floor in a standard double sea view room with a stunning view out over the ocean and islands in front of the hotel. Our room also had its own private balcony with two sunbeds and a table and chairs (plus cushions for them stored in the room) which was a nice surprise and proved to be a fantastic sun trap from about 11.30am onwards. The room was very clean and well-equipped and the beds incredibly comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and attentive and there are a variety of restaurants and bars from which you can enjoy the stunning views (which are worth a trip to the hotel in themselves!) We also had lunch in the pool bar on our first day which was very good and a great buffet breakfast is also included in the room rate.

The hotel is in the New Town of Dubrovnik and is about a 15 minute drive into the Old Town. Taxis can be booked very easily and quickly and cost around £10. There is also a public bus (number 6) that shuttles back and forth to the Old Town until 1am and takes about 25 minutes (costing £2 ish each way).

The hotel is very big and was fully booked when we stayed which meant that it was a bit of a scramble to get a sunbed on the beach in particular (every single bed was taken or "reserved" from 11am onwards for the duration of our stay). However, there is also plenty of room by the pool (which is gorgeous) and enough sunbeds up there which suited us fine - and we did stay during peak season after all.

If you are looking for an intimate hotel with a 'boutique' feel to it then the Valamar President isn't for you. However, in all other respects it is a great place and I would definitely recommend it as a great base from which to relax and also explore the magical town of Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: The higher up you are in the hotel the better your views will be, although even rooms on the first f...

All in all it is one of the best hotels you can find around Dubrovnik, with great service and top location. The food was excellent in both the buffet restaurant, and the staff were all really friendly.

We stayed at the Valamar Dubrovnik President between June 4 and June 11 this year and after a very recent refurbishment, the hotel is stunning. There are little touches which made the place seem extra special like a cold towel and non-alcoholic cocktail presented to us as we were checking in, really nice after an early morning flight and got the holiday off to a great start. Although we arrived at 10.45am (with a scheduled Cosmos flight), our room was already prepared for us and we didn’t have to wait around for the normal check-in time.

Our room, on the second floor, overlooked the beach and had an amazing view, especially of the sunsets. All the rooms overlook the sea so whatever room you're in you'll get a nice view. The balcony was big enough for two chairs and two loungers meaning we could sunbathe in comfort. Although the hotel was pretty full there was ample space to sit down on the beach on loungers, on one of the four poster bed loungers or cocoons.

The room was big with a proper seating area with a comfy sofa. The bed was very comfortable, one of the best hotel beds we’ve ever slept in. While the rooms retain some of the pre-refurbishment furniture, the rooms are still stylishly decorated. The one slight annoyance was glasses we’d used we never cleaned or replaced in the week we stayed there.

Most of the staff are so friendly, particularly the lovely Elizabet who greeted us on the door of the restaurant every night of our stay like old friends, we even felt sad saying goodbye to her. Also Ana, who did a lot of the cooking, and waitress Marija, who was always happy to help. The man who squeezed the orange juice (we could never quite get his name Marko we think), although his English was not very good, he always smiled and made our breakfast time.

The food, breakfast and dinner as we were half board, was always fresh and very tasty but our one complaint was the service during meal times. After being greeted by lovely Elizabet on the door, we then entered the restaurant. We would hover by the door expecting to be seated at a suitable table but no-one would come so we would find a two table ourselves. The food is a buffet service where you help yourself or have the food cooked for you at a counter, however you have to be wait to be served drinks. Some nights we waited more than 20 minutes without being able to get catch anyone’s attention to get drinks and then it would take ages for them to bring it to us. It became obvious that certain people had specific roles for a night, but it would become a nightly frustration wondering where to sit and how to get a drink. There also random men walking about it suits, who looked like they should be managing the staff and keeping an eye on the guests, however really didn’t seem to do anything. It was obvious we weren’t the only people having this problem but for us it became a bit of light hearted joke, but to you could really see it getting to some people. It would really be helpful to have drinks menu on the table so one, as a sign of who was waiting and who had ordered a drink, and two, so you know what’s available and how much it would cost.

Also tables were either cleaned very quickly while one of us was still eating or we would be left with all our plates for our starters, mains and puddings. At breakfast time, tables were often missing cutlery or crockery and hadn’t been remade up after others had eaten and left, meaning that we either had to collect stuff from other tables or do without.

The food really is fantastic but the service, especially for drinks, was very frustrating and really does need straightening out before this hotel can be classed as a 5* star. I would still recommend it to anyone who was thinking of a holiday to beautiful Dubrovnik.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor so had no balconies under us to obstruct our view of the sea. Any room...

Croatia, the country of contrasts. Unique nature and horrible service. Rocky coastline is not for everyone. But it seems that as od 2014 the approach towards tourists seems changing. We have seen just forthcoming people in restaurants and especially at this recently upgraded hotel.
Plus it is one of the few hotels around Dubrovnik with pebble beach. And the sunsets ... all the hotel rooms face towards west. We will miss late afternoons on the terrace.
The breakfasts are opulent in mediterranean standards, and you can find even nice brown breads (normally gummy white bread is standard here even in top locations).
Yes, there were few downsides as well - the beach restaurant service and meals need to work it out. Why they offer sterile meals in country of great cuisine? Follow example of Tajmahal or Konoba Dubrava and don`t be shy of great local meals.
The second negative is that in the afternoons many locals occupy hotel beach beds even the premium ones for which you have to pay up to 90 USD a day. Unbelievable and no one cares.
All in all it is one of the best hotels you can find around Dubrovnik, with great service and top location.

Room Tip: The higher you are the better (avoid noise from beach and restaurants). Best rooms (and most expensi...

One of the best hotel experiences … in fact this goes into my current Top 10!
The Hotel has a commanding cliff top location outside the city centre, which is about 10 minutes on Bus number 6 which stops right outside … and has glorious views of the sea islands and surrounding coastline from all rooms and public spaces,.
Apparently the lobby has been completely refurbished in the last year to reveal the view – and this makes a massive impact immediately you enter. I get a real feel-good factor when I walk into a space and there is a good view – even better if it’s also a stunningly beautiful view like this!
The lobby is on level 7 in the lift and there’s a beach bar / restaurant on the ground floor – a large terrace bar on level 6, a buffet restaurant with its own large terrace area also on level 6 along with the pool which is further along, all sharing the same fantastic outlook.
I had room 6030 which was right on the end of a new wing, part of the upgrade project which has added a load of new rooms.
It was a good size subtle duplex style, with a few steps down to a lower level offering sofa / living area, TV, etc. and then out onto a good sized balcony. With floor-to-ceiling windows, it was really light. The bathroom was at the other end of the room, near the entry door, and there was a large desking area to the right.
They had through of pretty much everything!
Nice modern décor and design, neutral colours with classy wood elements, spaces, hooks and sockets in all the right places and for everything you need.
The mini-bar was comprehensively stocked and there were tea and coffee making facilities, nice toiletries, fluffy towels, bathrobes and slippers, etc.
The bed was mega comfortable, the desking efficient and the WIFI fast, wide and free for as many devices as you wanted
All that and the awesome view – I could not fault the facilities.
I loved being there and I wished I had stayed on longer, but … now I know it’s there I will definitely go back. Even though I was working it felt like being on holiday.
The staff were all really friendly – although it has to be said, some of them were a little slow and maybe they were just ramping up for the holiday season, as some seemed a bit new! Also, the hotel is geared towards holiday makers more than businesses – although it has some excellent conference facilities – so maybe that’s why they were literally not quite up to speed!
The food was excellent in both the buffet restaurant on level 6 and the ambience in the restaurant and particular the beach bar and the terrace bar on level 6 - was chilled, friendly and with a bit of a buzz.
It was also great to have that separation from Dubrovnik, which charming though it is, can still get over-touristy at times …
I’ll definitely go back to the Valamar and will encourage everyone I know who is heading to that part of Croatia to check it out!

This hotel has all the ingredients to be 5star luxury but misses the mark.
Location, accommodation, views facilities all exceed expectation however staff competence lets it down.
We stayed 6 nights in a Premium room on floor 7 which was large with great views and terrace with loungers. The bathroom has a separate shower.
Service varied from excellent to being totally ignored. This should not and in our experience of luxury hotels has never happened anywhere we have visited.
We felt like guinea pigs which would have been fine if we were not paying a bill at the end.
Dubrovnik is a beautiful city and one we will return to but not sure we would return to this hotel.
I could list a host of complaints but that would not be helpful. Hopefully the management of the Valamar hotel group take the comments on Tripadvisor seriously as this hotel has the potential to be very special.

Room Tip: All rooms have a sea view. Not all room types have separate shower and bath.
