We stayed here last week on a Riviera holiday and were impressed with the high standard, particularly the variety and quality of the food, despite the need to cater for large numbers. The room was well-equipped, the only downside being the noise which funnels up from the atrium, not only the music, but even just conversation. It stops at eleven though!

Easy to get in and out of Dubrovnik - as well as the bus it's about an hour and a half walk.

Room Tip: Away from atrium

This hotel was very clean and tidy and in a good location. we stayed for four nights as part of a Riviera Travel tour. The reception staff were not very friendly. the room was good except for one thing the plastic chairs in the room, even though they had a cover on them they were not comfortable. The food in the restaurant was good most of the time however it felt like being in a railway station much too busy and sometimes difficult to find a table . no such thing as a quiet meal here extremely noisy.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side were quieter. top floor is best

We went on a Riviera holiday to croatia and stopped at the hotel argosy .the hotel is out of dubrovnic on a peninsular but has a brilliant bus service.it stops outside the hotel and runs every 10 mins and it goes right into the centre of dubrovnic. There is a small shopping /.cafe area very near. The hotel is on 3 levels and is clean and the food is good.Plenty of sitting areas and a lovely pool with a path down to two beaches .You can also walk down the coastal path to the town it takes about 45 mins. The staff are very good .

Room Tip: we had a room on the ground floor which opened onto the garden,we would have preffered a balcony roo...

Travelled back today after a wonderful week in the Argosy hotel. It was so much better than anticipated. The staff go out of their way to ensure the customers are happy. The room was a good size and the sea view was spectacular. The kids club was a great facility to have for my 6 year old and he got wonderful attention there. The food was hot, fresh and varied everyday. It is the staff that make the hotel great - in particular Nenad never stopped working and always smiling, the two girls in the kids club and the fabulous Giovanni playing and singing great songs at night. We'll be back to the Argosy

We booked 6 nights at the Argosy at the end of April, beginning of May.
Our Easy Jet flight from Gatwick arrived just before 8, by the time we got to the hotel it was nearly 9, dark and raining slightly.
Daniel checked us in and as we had booked half board advised us if we were quick we could get a meal. The restaurant closes at 9:30pm.
He told us that the room we had was “one of the best” - we had also paid extra for a sea view and a balcony.

The following morning when we opened the curtains we could see that he wasn’t joking!.
An uninterrupted view across the sea and islands - fantastic.

So what did we think of the Argosy?...

Staff - all that we had dealings with were courteous and keen to help. All spoke English, the “customer facing” ones being especially good. Some of the restaurant waiting staff were heard to speak in a number of languages to suit the customer.

Room - (228). Standard sort of fare for this type of hotel (there are 300+ rooms here).
Very clean, with good quality cotton linen. Fresh air and exercise ensured a good nights sleep on the firm and comfortable (single) beds.
The bathroom was also very clean, but in truth could do with a bit of modernisation, but this is being ultra picky.

The ceiling was sloping and very high at one end, this helped make the room feel light and airy. An electric fan hung from the ceiling and silently helped move around the air. The temp when we were there was 25-26c and as the room faces west gets a lot of sun. The air conditioning was not turned on at this time (we asked) as it was too early in the season.

Half way through our stay the bed linen was changed without any request from us.
Housekeeping seemed very good.

The balcony had been refurbished recently as had the whole of the outside of the hotel. There was a glass screen with obscured glazing giving an element of privacy, we were not overlooked by anyone.

We made extensive use of the free wifi, to investigate trips out and generally keep in touch with the rest of the world.
The TV has a limited range of English speaking channels - which are mostly rolling news channels. But we did not come on holiday to watch Eastenders or similar such nonsense.

Restaurant - Like may European large hotels all meals are of the “help yourself” buffet style.
The range is extensive with many varieties of eggs, cheeses, sausages, bacon, fruit, cereals, salads etc for breakfast with a similar range of meats / fish / pasta / vegetables / salads and desserts in the evening.
Food is replenished frequently, there can be delays for things like scrambled egg when demand is greater than the speed that the cook can make it (in front of you!). Breakfast spans 3 and a half hours so leaving it a little later will help avoid this problem.

Staff will bring drinks to your table.

There are 3 choices of seating, inside, on a balcony with roof and large openings to let the air in or totally outside.

We tended to eat a hearty breakfast, have a cheap snack for lunch and eat in for dinner. We only ate out on the last night in Dubrovnik.

Grounds
The hotel is situated at the end of a peninsula and shares some facilities with other hotels in the Valamar chain. There are a number of gravel paths that can be walked, in amongst the trees and shrubs.
A lot of people seem to spend a lot of time and effort keeping everything neat and tidy.

When we were there the season had not started (1st May onwards I think) so a number of things were not open - the food and drink outlets at the Copocabana beach for example.
This didn’t bother us as we don’t particularly like crowds in any case.

There is an open air pool area, which was very quiet when we were there, the water looked very clean.

There is a small shopping arcade adjoining the hotel with a range of shops and food outlets. Car hire and trips / excursions can be booked here as well.

We found a pleasant path that winds along the shore into Dubrovnik. Whilst we were there some fairly major works were going on along the path so visitors later in the season may not be able to use this all the way.
The bus is much quicker way to get into Dubrovnik and only costs 15 Khuna (£1.65) each way if you pay the driver (they prefer exact money). The stop is 200yds from the main hotel entrance.
Alternatively you can buy the tickets in advance from the shop in reception for 12 Khuna (£1.32).

The bus runs every 15 mins from early till late, but when the traffic gets busy the timetable goes out of the window. Be warned, the locals at the Pile gate (the end of the line in town) where you catch the bus home, don’t understand the concept of queuing. Being polite may mean you have to wait for the next bus...

So... would we stay here again? Most definitely.
We were told that there are plans to do some major refurbishment at the end of the season, which would result in an upgrade to 4 star rating.

We loved our whole holiday to Croatia, Dubrovnik is a fantastic place and this hotel is just the job.

Stayed here for 4 nights with Riviera Travel. First impressions of the room were not good. Lime green moulded plastic chairs looked cheap and the curtains were too long by about 15 inches. There were stains on one of the sheets and a towel. Looked like tea but whatever it was there is no excuse when everything is white cotton and easily laundered. The air conditioning was confusing with two separate boxes on the wall but once conquered was quite efficient. Bathroom was OK but lime green tiles are not to everyone's taste. Concertina wardrobe doors awkward and would not lie flat.
Having got the negative aspect over I have to say the room was comfortable enough with extra pillows in the wardrobe. The hotel itself is quite well appointed with plenty of sitting out areas and a large lobby bar with plenty of seating. There was live music there each evening. Food is buffet style with well warmed plates. The hotel is ideally situated in an area of parkland shared with other Valamar hotels and there are pleasant walks and good views. It is a short walk to a small shopping area with bars and cafes. A bus service runs to Dubrovnik old town every ten minutes.
Looking at some of the photographs it is obvious that most rooms have curtains that fit though there do seem to be a lot of lime green plastic chairs. I would recommend the hotel if only for its wonderful position.

If you like lime green paint, this is the hotel for you. Bedrooms and ensuite need a refurb but public rooms are good. Buffet food in lovely restaurant with 2 terraces. Food very bland and a bit same-y. Great location on the terminus of the number 6 bus into the city. Lovely views of Dubrovnik bridge and coastline from the public rooms and some bedrooms

Room Tip: Try to avoid having a room in the central atrium area unless you like music until 2300 or later. Noi...
