Well, when we purchased our 3 museum ticket and I said 'ohhh an ethniographic museum',some ladies behind us asked 'oooh, what is that then'? Well, it's 'how we lived' and I suspect there are many more Croatian school children than tourists that visit. Mainly because it is so starkly hard to find!
You can pretty much rip up the tourist maps - they all quite evily send you up the steepest route and the place is very slightly signed anyway. But it is an up up up route, past the homes of folks who live in the old city and up and up.
And when you get there - well, it seems very sparse inside with view points through the floor into the incredibly deep storage chambers of the old town. A doorway then takes you up, and up and up! At the top floor you must be 5 stories above the old town wall - very high - the views are fabulous - giddy!
On the floors in between you can see original, beautiful Croatian traditional costumes, egg carvings and farming displays.
Get here if you can find it!
