“Small but powerful exhibit”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

Small exhibit with a powerful impact. It gives enough background to help you understand the very personal recent history of the conflict that took the lives of the defenders. The faces young and old are all there. Sponza Palace is next door, but was under renovation when we were there.

“Heart-rending”
Reviewed June 9, 2014

This is a very small, understated memorial right in the middle of town. You can see it in 20 minutes including reading the history of the siege of Dubrovnik. The really moving part is the photos lining the walls of the 200 people killed defending their city. Many of them were boys of 17 or 18. It was free to enter when we went in the evening in late May, 2014

“Moving Memorial”
Reviewed June 4, 2014 via mobile

On a recent tour of Croatia my husband and I visited this memorial with a local guide. The room is housed in the palace and contains pictures of the devastation the war caused. More importantly it also has pictures of all the men, many of them very young, who lost their lives in the war. Our local guide knew many of those young people and told us he was around ten when the war broke out. It was obvious that he was still upset about the friends lost and the memories that he still had of the bombings. Yet he was proud of the fact that they never gave up and that the town was saved and has rebuilt much of the devastation in the past twenty or so years. We re all moved listening to his personal story and imagining what it must have been like living during those most difficult years. This museum is well worth visiting, if only as a reminder of the importance of peace.
