I booked through a booking site,at 250 euros a night imagining this would be a apartment with a little comfort , space or even maybe a bit of luxury. I arrived in the evening , and after having seen the so called apartment , I had the feeling Dubrovnik was exceptionally expensive.
The ladies running the place seemed helpful, I arranged to stay a second night , but would have to change rooms for the second night. I had a feeling i might have made a mistake with the price and that it was actually 250 euros a week , which seemed appropriate for this property. I was not mistaken, 250 a night, same price for the new room , which had barely a foot of space around the bed , an old 12 inch tv on a shelf on the wall , no room for a chair , let alone anywhere to put a suitcase , three sad old bent wire coat hangers were in the closet. As I peeled back the gaudy purple seersucker sheet to go to bed, i saw some mysterious whitish marks on the bottom sheet. reminding me of passionate nights a long long time ago. ( yuk ) As in the other room the bed linen was cheap and of gaudy colours , the type that might cheer up a cheap backpackers hostel . I had use of a kitchenette next to a bathroom down the hall . Just another thing to disappoint me was not even a thought to put a tea bag or cheap sachet of coffee for the guests. The view from the so called apartment on my first night was over a dreary shared outdoor stairwell/courtyard . The second night i had the grand view, a wonderful view and possibly the best view of dubrovnik one can have. The old city is accessed by 380 steps , after descending and climbing over a two day period lets you really give those calf muscles a good workout.
The first morning i was woken up by madam doing her cleaning at 6.30 am. I found this to be very rude , for the price i was paying . The other thing that left me unimpressed was that the bath towels were very old even grey, they were rough and hard . No luxurious soft towels at this place. There were no soaps or shampoos , only one pillow per person on the bed, no tea or coffee. No breakfast on offer and a long way to get a coffee.
I discovered on my day of departure some other apartments of this calibre , in the same area , more spacious , with much better amenities at about 50 euros a night .. I DEFINITELY FELT RIPPED OFF.
