“Please do not get the lobster”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

I hate to leave a bad review, but paying what we did I feel it's necessary. My wife and I decided to eat here after reading reviews on TA. Service was very good, as good as any restaurant in town. The problem started and ended with my lobster, it was 59 kuna per 100g so I knew it was going to be somewhat costly, and she said the lobster is 300 to 500 grams. It was a very large lobster and I'm not sure if it was not cooked properly or just wasn't fresh, but it was very chewy, tough, and not near as tasty as a decent lobster should be. My wife had the steak and it was good enough. I wouldn't have a problem if the lobster was 100 kuna, but our meal was 664 kuna, or about $115 dollars. This was one lobster, one steak, and split a bottle of water. For this price, you should be getting an outstanding meal, and an outstanding meal we did not get.

Dear Sir,

Thank you very much for your visit.
We regret for misunderstanding in regards to the price of lobster. In the price list it is clearly stated that price is valid for 100 gram (g)
You can not find lobsters under the 0.5 kg in our restaurants. Also, lobsters from the Adriatic sea are different in view and in taste and depends on way of preparation.
We sold numerous lobsters in our restaurant and we didn't have any complaints so far.
Especially we take really good care about way of cooking and we buy fresh groceries every day.
If you had any complaint in regards to selected meal, you would reacted immediately.
As far as we remember, you ate everything from your plate.
Our opinion is that the only problem was the price of the food not the quality. Please note that e.g. in London you will pay for steak 25 pounds, in Germany 35 EUR, in Croatia only 15 EUR which is a quiet difference. Not to mention price of lobsters and price of food in USA.
We traveled a lot and for delicacies you are paying everywhere.
At the end we are really sorry about your disappointment.
We believe that the real reason to rate us so low was your revolt not the food quality or service.
Best regards,

“Konoba Jezuite Restaurant”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

In common with many others we stumbled across Konoba. It sits in the square opposite the Jesuite church, a vantage point in the old town. The food was very good and the house red is particularly nice.
Our hosts were very attentive and amusing. They took care to make sure we remained dry during a short shower, unlike the restaurant next door where an unfortunate party of Canadians sat with waterproofs on.
Would thoroughly recommend

“Simple and effective”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

Stumbled upon this restaurant whilst walking the walls south of stradun. It is in a small square at the top of some Spanish steps. Very untended location, but rustic, seems to be outside of the busy side streets. Seems like you are sitting in another part of town away from the hustle and bustle.

Food was excellent, at very reasonable price. We had risotto noir which tasted fresh from the sea, enjoyable then skewer of pork. I had visions of fatty meat, but the meat was lean and expertly cooked. Washed down with half carafe of red.

A guitar player strums in the square, this adds to the magic.

Only disappointment was that the did not have the small fish available, but otherwise a great find with great food at competitive prices.

“Lovely setting, polite and charming owner”
Reviewed May 31, 2013 via mobile

Had lunch. I was taken to the kitchen to see "my fish" which was as fresh as a daisy. Very nice meal and an excellent glass of white. Staff chatty and friendly but not over so.It was good to receive a very polite non pushy welcome with nothing too much trouble. This has not always been the case in this city.Quietish square away from the main hustle and bustle. Worth the diversion.
