As tourists bowled over by the hot weather and splendid sights of Dubrovnik old town we tend to forget that as recently as 1991 the Serbian army was shelling the city and blockading the port. The BBC and ITV news footage used from 1991 shows the shells and missiles landing, actually hitting the fortress walls. Pictures of about 30+ men of the Croatian defence force who died in the successful defence of the city is a sad reminder of the ultimate price paid to keep this jewel of a place intact for future generations. Well worth an hour of anyone's time, especially in the heat of the day, as the museum is very cool and shaded
