My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights while in Dubrovnik.
I will say that most of the reviews here are accurate. You just need to decide how much you want to spend, and what you're willing to live with. Some complaints are just due to a lack of research on the reviewers part. This hotel IS in the walled city. So NO, you can't take a taxi to the front door. That's the charm of staying withing the walled city of Dubrovnik. There are no cars. You will have to walk your bags from the city gates to this hotel.
Also, this hotel (like hundreds other in Europe) is 300-400 years old. That means there are no elevators. You WILL have to carry your bags up several flights of stairs. Get over it. You are in a walled city that has thousands of stairs. If you can't climb 2 or 3 flights of stairs to get to your room, you really aren't going to be able to see much of the city anyways.
The Bathrooms are the only thing I'd complain about. The bathrooms do smell like mold. The shower glass/doors leak and water gets on the floor, and this probably is why they smell. The only solution seems to be to keep the bathroom door shut with the fan on. Also, like I read in another review, the toilet seat is loose. When I mentioned this to the staff, they taped the seat to the toilet base with duct tape, hmmmm. The shower head didn't want to stay in the holder on the wall, so we had to hold the handle the whole time while showering, and even when it did stay in place, it was so high it went over my head (I'm 6'1").
Lot's of good things about this place! The location is perfect. You are on a side street just steps away from the Stradun. It can get noisy at night, but with the windows shut, it wasn't bad at all.
The rooms have a lot of character, as does the building. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Wifi reception is good. The price is fair considering you are staying in the walled city. Breakfast is good.
Some people complained that breakfast is offsite. This is true. Breakfast is served at the family's restaurant, which is a 3 minute casual walk away. The food is good, fresh breads, cheeses, meat, etc. The service is attentive, and I was even offered eggs cooked to my liking each morning. I didn't mind walking a couple of short blocks each morning to eat there at all.
Overall, If you want a 4 or 5 star hotel, this isn't quite the place. But it could be if the owners just took a little time to fix the bathroom issues. But you have to realize that you aren't paying as much as the nicer hotels within the walled city either. You have to decide whether you want to live with a few shortcomings, or spend the extra money to stay somewhere with better reviews.
