Walking tours Dubrovnik offer two outstanding tours :
The tour of the old city is ideal to discover the city, i.e. the buildings and squares of old town Dubrovnik and includes a visit to the Memorial for the Defenders of Dubrovnik.
“Walls and wars” focuses on the history and structure of the walls and the enemies of Dubrovnik, including background about the war of 1991-1995. Participants walk the walls from beginning to end, which can be too strenuous for old people as it involves quite a few stairs.
Me and my girlfriend purchased a combo ticket and were lucky to have Marko Milos as our guide on both occasions.
Although we have participated in many walking tours throughout Europe this guy tops them all and has become our new standard (reference) in guiding. I award him an exceptional six stars for the following reasons :
Marko is a local with due pride and passion for his hometown. He speaks excellent English. He is very knowledgeable and open to questions.
He loves metal music and brought rock attitude and dynamism in the tour. He managed to continually capture the attention of his audience with humor and a little pop quiz.
Although we were quite a large group his organization skills helped make sure no one was left behind and everyone could hear him loud and clear.
Last but not least he did not watch the clock : Because we were a large group we ran a bit behind on schedule. In such circumstances most guides would skip information or rush their audience to finish within the given time schedule.
Marko however decided to work half an hour overtime out of love for his subject and out of conviction that an audience should always get value for money.
