Description: Kazbek dining experience:The rich and varied gastronomic cultures of Croatia are not only served at Kazbek they are proudly presented in their full and glorious light. Croatian cuisine is heterogeneous, and is therefore known as "the cuisine of regions". The cuisine reflects the influence of various cultures, having distinctive regional qualities.Along the Dalmatian coast the cuisine tends to be Mediterranean. Northern and eastern Croatian cuisine tends to be heartier, showing the influences of Hungary and Austria. The different areas of Croatia offer an amazing array of delectable produce, grown on the small farmsteads, fished from the deep blue waters or lovingly made from recipes passed down through centuries. Our menu reflects a pride in Croatian cuisine and produce. Our ingredients are the finest and freshest available, and of course are all locally produced. The Kazbek Hotel is proud to present three elegant dining & cocktail venues:The Main Restaurant:The main restaurant, located on the ground level in the hotel is very appreciated because of the old stone vault creating a peaceful and historic atmosphere. The Courtyard Terrace:The Courtyard Terrace located within the walls of Kazbek offers a relaxed ambience surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation. Soak up the morning sun while enjoying your breakfast and experience the colours of the Croatian cuisine in the cozy and romantic evening atmosphere. The Balcony:When you are ready for cocktails and conversation, our lovely Balcony Terrace overlooking the lively Gruz Bay is a perfect venue. A comfortable lounge setting and unique evening illumination create an unforgettable atmosphere while enjoying our wide selection of cocktails and sweets.

“Very Good Compared to What?”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

A beautiful stone compound fronting on the Port of Dubrovnik. The dining room, a barrel vaulted stone structure that could have been a stable or warehouse has a lovely view of the Port. You sit at ample tables distributed with a restraint that astonishes one with the a amount of elbow room and comfort you will enjoy. Your napkin is folded in a perfect origami swan, a scarlet or gold table runner slashes diagonally across your linen tablecloth. I mean, when you walk in you feel like an Ambassador entering a State Dinner.

Once you adjust to the magnificence of your surroundings, the menu is set before you. It is physically imposing, Atlas Folio. You expect this huge binding to contain Captain Cook's maps of Polynesia or maybe Audubon's wildfowl, not the rather pedestrian food you will eventually receive. But if looks alone could make a meal, this place would be a hit.

Music is playing and odd music it is. Barry White sings, "Just the Way You Are", a medley of American tunes from the 70s and 80s clashes with the High Style of the setting. Don't get me wrong, I love Barry White but the room cries out for Hayden, Mozart, the Music of The Hapsburgs, even a Vienna Waltz. But Barry is moaning amidst all this beautiful formality in the room and he's incongruous and peculiar. An omen?

I ordered an Istrian home-made pasta dish. But in whose home was it fashioned, I ask? Betty Crocker's? Certainly not the best or even second best pasta dish I've had in Croatia. Some penne, perhaps even made by hands but bland, swimming in a sea of blandness masquerading as a sauce. The dish is presented in a miniature tureen, the lid whisked away as it hits the table but it failed to live up to the presentation.

My companion had a soup, she said it was OK. Main courses were good but unexceptional. What was exceptional were the prices, astronomical for Croatia. I looked at a few other reviews before writing this and see that management takes umbrage at mention of this but it is indeed a valid observation: Prices are very high by the local standard and the food ought therefore to be judged at a high standard.

We didn't have a bad meal but we didn't have a super one either so we left without staying to experience the desserts. I am baffled by this place, a superb location and beautiful dining room proffering such pedestrian fare. We are not likely to return until management quits arguing with customers who post comments here and instead decides to engage an executive chef to rework the menu and invests in some Hayden CDs.

“Good Quality”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

Nice presented food, but still a little overpriced. You should not have to pay same prices as in Rome or New York in a small little hotel in Croatia. There was only a few eating guest in the place, so we had really good service. But if the prices of the courses and wine list was a little less, more people would certainly find there way there, because they have nice quality in their food, and cosy surrounding in the garden restaurant.

Dear cinnisen,

Thank you indeed for your very good rating. It's nice to hear that you liked the presentation and quality of our food just like the cozy surrounding of our garden restaurant.

Beside the fact that we are a small hotel in Croatia, we are also five star hotel categorized by high standard of Croatian Ministry of tourism which corresponds to the global standards in hospitality industry. Croatia, and particularly Dubrovnik is also one of the top World destinations with quite long tourist tradition and in just couple of days new EU member so we are not happy to hear that we should have an inferior position comparing to other destinations. My colleagues and me, we do travel a lot and quite well know the offer, quality and rates in five star hotels around the World. Our rates are definitely significantly lower, but the quality of ingredients and our service are on the similar levels. Furthermore, Croatian wines are of a great quality, but with limited productions so that is why they are not yet widely famous. Fortunately there are more and more vineyards and modern wineries all around Croatia especially in this coastal part so hopefully our wines should achieve a higher reputation soon because they definitely deserve it.

Once again that you for your visit and we do hope you will give us a chance to welcome you again in our Kazbek restaurant.

Best regards from Dubrovnik,

Pave Miloglav

“Some of the best food we have ever had!”
Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I ate here on the first and last nights of our stay in Dubrovnik. The service was excellent on both occasions, particular credit goes to Marijio who was great and helped us with an excellent wine recommendation. The lamb skewers are the best main I have ever eaten, so good I had them twice and my husband really enjoyed the sea bass rolls. If in the lapad area of Dubrovnik this restaurant is a must visit!
