Found this not at all a wine bar where you would expect to relax and sample local wines but more a very very commercial venture with wine flights and glasses of wine at
prices which were much higher than elsewhere in Croatia ...

Excellent red and white wines. The tasting offer was well worth it and the server was very informative about the wines

We had read about D'Vino, and Dubrovnik in general, just prior to our trip to Croatia. You can see it here: http://travel.nytimes.com/2012/09/30/travel/36-hours-in-dubrovnik-croatia.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0.

Once there, we were eager to find all about Croatian wines, which friends of ours who go on regular trips to the region said were poised to take off in the next few years in the international wine market. Wines had been made in this region since before Roman times, so it's not something new. Once in Dubrovnik, we stood on the main drag and pulled out our article, then discovered that D'Vino was right behind us, on a small side alleyway.

There's the wine bar, which we visited, and the restaurant, which we did not. The wine bar is very quaint and stocked to the gills with all kinds of Croatian vintages. There are several high tables and chairs which allow customers to sit and sip. One of the staff, Anita, walked us through all the different kinds of wines and allowed us to taste everything. I think I was a little tipsy towards the end! What a friendly experience. They also laid out some cheese and fruit while we tasted. We wound up purchasing several bottles of wine, but I far preferred the full bodied Dingac. I grew up in wine country - next to Napa, California - so I like to think that I have a good palate and know my wines. This was a totally new experience and I had never tasted anything quite like what was in these bottles.

The sad part was that Anita despaired the Croatian wines ever getting out into the wider international market because the wineries produced so few bottles each year. However, the wonderful Silver Lake Wine, in my Los Angeles neighborhood, specializes in boutique, small production wine - so they just started carrying Dingac!

If you want a true Croatian experience, go visit D'Vino. It's a really wonderful experience.

Easy to find just off the main drag, small, very engaging staff, great red and white wine tastings and cheese and meat platters. We went here after the war photos, by which time we needed a drink to recompose ourselves, it's a great place, good vibe, and just to enjoy getting away from the hoardes of people who have just got off the never ending stream of cruise liners, it's an honest place, where you really can relax,,, and the guys running it do a great job ... Highly recommended

We shared two tasting flights of Croatian wines, each consisting of three different wines, one flight white and one red, together with a cheese tray. The wines were good, and the learning experience -- thanks to our engaging young host -- was first-rate.
