“Amazing Resort!”
Reviewed December 22, 2011

Great facilities with a view! We stayed at the Hotel Neptune, within the Importanne Resort. The resort itself is located on the coast (~5 to 10 min by bus from the old city). The water and area surrounding the resort was beautiful. It was easy to let time pass sitting on a patio, looking at the Adriatic, with a cold drink in hand. The hotel staff are welcoming, informative, funny and multilingual, while the rooms were clean and comfortable. This place takes care of the little details, such as packing a breakfast for you if you have an early flight, which allows you to truly relax and enjoy the great city of Dubrovnik. I would go back in a heartbeat.

If you want a relaxing holiday with wonderful food, charming people and beautiful landscapes this is it. I had always wanted to visit Dubrovnik and was certainly not disappointed. I adored the place as did the rest of my family. The resort is 15 minutes outside the town but in the heat of the summer that is perfect. There are first class facilities both in the resort and in the surrounding area, there are stunning walks along the sea and first class places to eat. The food is very fresh with wonderful fish dishes. Croatia can be more expensive than other holiday destinations, but the quality of service that you receive is exceptional.

Fantastic views and setting from Hotel Neptun. Had a full see view room that was hard to beat! This hotel easily lived up to its four stars. Nice rooms, good breakfast and very peaceful. No beach here as it's rocky but plenty of sunbeds and places to swim. The hotel and surrounding area is very quiet and it's about a 10 min taxi ride to the old town. Staff very pleasant and accomodating, especially Sandra who helped me with changing my booking dates.Nice bar and restaurants if you didn't feel like venturing out. Did i mention the view..............................

Room Tip: Get the front seaview room as this is the main attraction!

It was slightly confusing to figure out which is which, but Hotel Neptun, Hotel Ariston as well as Importanne suites are all part of the same place. The difference comes from the sizes of the rooms. All three share the same beach, pools, restaurants, etc. And the whole resort is very well kept and provides you with friendly service. I have absolutely nothing to complain about!

The location is very nice. There is a path that leads further into the bay, where you can find more restaurants, shops and a sandy beach. I would say it is only a 10 minute walk. The hotel is on the end of the bus route, which is good since you will most definately get a seat. The extra 5 minute ride, to and from the old town, really makes no difference.

All-in-all it was a great place and I would not hesitate recommending it to anyone.

We were fortunate enough to have a suite with sea views. Absolutely spectacular with large beds, great bathrooms, super balcony with magnificent view of the adriatic. This hotel is certainly better than most purported high end hotels we have stayed at in the Meditteranean.

No sandy beaches as coastline is rock, but they have adapted it accordingly very well for sun loungers and diving areas into the crystal clear water. Not probably the best place for young kids, but for those who can swim and love jumping in the sea off rocks...it is brilliant.

Dubrovnik itself is easily accessible by bus, about 20 kuna return trip (£3'ish) and takes 10 minutes. This place is amazing and up there with top places I have been...I have been around the world several times! Very historic and a great buzz throughout the day and night.

Food at the hotel was very good and plentiful. The bar reasonably priced, about 5 euro a big beer. The staff were excellent.

Certainly would be going back as great all round place to stay in lovely location.

We stayed here for a week in August and had a really lovely time. The hotel is a great location, has great views and worth paying more for a sea view from your balcony, great beach bar and great access to the sea. There are sun beds in the rocks and they provide you with towels and you can jump from the rocks or the ladders straight into the lovely clear water. There is also a baby pool and a larger pool by the rocks and also another pool up by the hotel even though the rock area near the sea is right on your doorstep.

When we arrived we had asked for a double bed but we got two singles, we mentioned this to reception and straight away they got us another room with a double bed and this wasn’t an issue as they sorted this straight away. The only other issues is that the hotel lets people who are not staying at the hotel use the sunbeds if they pay (they are free for hotel guests). This means if you do want a lie in and get down to the area after 11am all the best spots are taken but if you wonder further down the rocks past the pools it’s quiet here and you will be able to get a decent spot over looking the sea. This again was probably because we went in August when it is busy.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the hotel rooms are nothing special but you are paying for the fantastic sea view. The bed was comfortable with excellent air conditioning and a good size bathroom and it was clean with even a flat screen television and plenty of room for two people. The only thing is there isn’t a close shop nearby to get things like water (even though you can drink the tap water), beers or nibbles. If you drive you can go into Lapad as there is a supermarket there but we tried to walk it and it takes about 25 minutes which is fine if its early in the morning but it’s too hot to do this I the day.

In regards restaurants near by if you don’t want to go to Dubrovnik there is a restaurant called Lavanat which has a lovely view. It’s the first restaurant you come too when you are walking down the coastal walk towards Lapad. It’s not cheap but we found this with most restaurants in the area but at least you have a nice view and the meat grill for two is reasonable.

The hotel is near a place called Lapad. You can walk to Lapad in about 15/20 minutes along a nice coastal walk. To be honest this place wasn’t really our cup of tea but worth going down for the evening one night. Lots of club style singers and a small fairground for the children so great for families but just nearly really for us.

Every night we just caught the bus which is outside the hotel and takes you into Dubrovnik in the day in about 15 minutes and takes about 25 minutes in the evening in August because it gets very busy and stops at all the stops. You will always get a seat as this is the first stop and they are very often maybe every 10/15 minutes but on the way back from Dubrovnik it is a quick dash to the bus as it gets very busy. I think this might have been because it was August but if you can’t get on a bus one will come along in another 5/10 minutes so not an issue and you can buy tickets form the tourist desk in the hotel.

Dubrovnik is fantastic, it was very busy as it was August but we still managed to find places to eat easily without waiting long. By the harbour if you walk past the main restaurant on your left and turn right still in the harbour keeping the water to your left you will see a seafood restaurant (I can’t remember the name). We waited for about 15 minutes for a table which wasn’t that long and you have a lovely view and the food is fantastic. I don’t really eat seafood but even I thought the prawns were fantastic and my boyfriend said it was the best seafood he had ever eaten and the service was great. This was our favourite restaurant in Dubrovnik and not too expensive considering the food and location and we went there twice.

So to round it up, you will find it difficult to find a £80 per night hotel in this area so yes you will have to pay more but this hotel was worth it and probably cheaper than a few of the others which probably don’t have the views this hotel had. Dubrovnik is fantastic, I would recommend to go even though the drinks and food (drinks about £4 a pint and food about £15 main meal) are a little bit pricey but that is just what the area charges.

We stayed at the Hotel Neptun part of the Importanne resport in Lapad, just outside the old city of Dubrovnik. Getting into town was a simple affair - taxis are at the hotel and cost approx. $15 or so and 10 minute ride. In August, Dubrovnik is HOT - near 100F each day. This resort is on the water with several pools as well. The ability to come back mid-afternoon to cool down is KEY, especially if travelling with kids. While no beach per se, there are rocks and flat areas (paved to make smooth) and beach chairs distributed around, so the sea is quite accessible. The water is crystal clear and about 25' deep right off the rocks. Beautiful swimming conditions. Picturesque view of off-shore islands.

We had a family suite (two rooms with a common door) that worked fine for a family of four. The rooms aren't cheap, but they were competitive with others. WiFi in rooms was fine as was air conditioning. Satelite TV with a reasonable range of channels (Croatian TV usually English with subtitles, so the kids were happy). Breafast buffet quite good - dinner at the restaurant a little less so, but then again, it is convenient. A few restaurants within walking distance, but we didn't bother - the patio where dinner was served had a spectacular view which made up for the OK-to-mediocre dinner fare. English spoken quite well by staff - all in all, a Dubrovnik is a fabulous destination and this is a great base from which to visit it.
