Ok, it is not so expensive as other places, but it is NOT cheap.
The free pick up in the bus terminal is very handy, but they must do that, otherwise no one would find the hostel. It is really far from downtown and, for those who does not know Dubrovnik, this means a lot of stairs! There are 208 steps the way down to downtown that you take almost 20min if you are young enough. The really problem is to come back! Climb those 208 steps take almost 30 min!!!
If you are looking for some place quiet to stay, it might be a nice hostel; yet, if you are planning to visit the city or to party at night, please, do not make the same mistake I did!!!!

My husband and I spent 4 amazing nights at Villa Banana while visiting Dubrovnik and loved every minute of it! Dolores and her family (especially her father) go out of there way to make you comfortable and happy. The room was lovely, clean and with a small balony showing the most amazing view of Dubrovnik! We sat out on that balcony every morning and evening in awe!

We were on the top floor and on our side of the house there was one other room at the end of the hall way. Coming off the hallway were a well stocked (appliances, utensils, fridge) kitchen and a bathroom. Everything was clean and tidy and toilet paper ect was restocked daily.

The wifi only worked on the terrace at the front of the house but it is free and there were plenty of places to sit and the connection was good and strong. There was a fridge on the balcony with very well priced drinks to buy. Reception was 24 hours. Parking was free but if you dont have a car they will apparently pick you up from the bus station for free. There is also a mini mart 5 minutes walk away which Dolores noted on the map for us.

The location is something many reviewers have complained about and we were at loss as to how this could be! It was 15 minute walk to the entrance of the old town. Dolores gave us a map with the best route already outlined for us. Now you do go down stairs, 305 to be exact (my husband counted) but it's not in a row. You go done some stairs, then follow the road along, then go down more steps, then walk along the road again and then more steps. It's broken up so you don't feel it so much on the walk back when your going up the stairs. Given that so many people have given differing times for the return journey I decided to time myself and from the entrance to the old town to standing on the balcony of my room it took 25 minutes.

This is a great place, in a beautiful location and the hospitality is second to none!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the front, the view is amazing!

The place is not so expensive but transportation is an issue. a car, motorcycle or else is a must.
Personnel is ok: kind and available to help.
Ok for group of young people where the only need is a place to sleep !

cheap and decent bedroom are the only positives, if these are your main consideration it will serve you well. Good for short stay;1-3 days, but you will waste a lot of time walking.

It is best to ring the owner and get collected, which is free of charge. The collection was convenient for me, but also necessary as it is quite an uphill journey, and would be difficult to find.

The hostel is arranged in mini apartments, two bedrooms separated by a shared bathroom and kitchen with fridge and gas cooker.

The bedroom itself was perfect, just like a spare bedroom. Bed, socket and a bedside table, perfectly adequate. There is also a balcony with table and chairs, where you can enjoy nice views of the sunset. It is also very cheap for Croatia. These are the positives: Good bedroom, good views, kitchen and bathroom only shared with one other room. (3 in each room)

The negatives: The Bathroom was disgusting, old mosaic style tiles, covered in sand, dirt, hair, dust, mold and a collection of other living and nonliving forms of dirt that previously I was unaware existed. It was old, dirty, damp and unpleasant to be in.

The kitchen lacked cooking utensils, plates, cutlery and cups. There was certainly not enough for two people let alone the maximum of 6.

The walk to the part of Dubrovnik that we all recognise from the postcards was down hundreds of stone steps and a 25 minute walk. It really was a nuisance.

The wireless internet only works at the front of the house, where the owner lives. So you will have to congregate outside if you want to access the internet.

If you are traveling elsewhere in croatia by bus and ask for a lift to the bus station you will get stung by the owners father for 50kuna. The car was stopped 200 metres from my destination and "50kuna" was grunted by the driver. I left with the feeling that the hostel was run by a family of chancers. I would never return to this place.

family-run, welcome drink and homemade treat, cute little apartments with a few rooms and shared bathroom/kitchen, bit of a walk from the old town but great views and a few basic food markets along the way, pick-up from bus station very much appreciated.

Its very hard to find this place because theres no sign outside to tell you where it is. Important because it doesnt really look like a hostel. Its a blue house, by the way, i hope that helps. Nonetheless, the view from this place is fantastic and the couple who owns it are very friendly. Theyre english is not so good, but you can get by, a croatian-english dictionary could be an asset when you stay here
