We visited Villa Ruza for lunch on the last day of our 10 day trip of the Dalmation coast. We hopped on the ferry from Dubrovnik and found ourselves enthralled by the stunning scenery of Kolocep island. A short walk to Villa Ruza along the promenade we were even more taken aback by the amazing setting of this lovely restaurant. We arrived a little early for our reservation and as we were travelling straight from lunch to the airport we had our suitcases with us; the waitors were amazingly helpful, taking our bags from us and offering us the choice of sitting down for lunch earlier or going for a swim at the beach just below the restaurant. We chose to go for a swim to cool down. After our swim we sat down for lunch and were blown away by the amazing choice on the menu. Everything sounded incredible. We finally chose our starters and main courses and a bottle of wine and sat back to enjoy the stunning view. We had the Monkfish carpaccio and Caprese salad to start, followed by the beef fillet pasta and fish in sparkling wine sauce for mains. All of the dishes were delicious and were served to us in the most professional manner by our charming waitor. Following our delightful meal we had a few hours to kill before our returning ferry, so we went to the lounge area and had a cocktail. We were incredibly sad to leave Villa Ruza and Kolocep, it was such a lovely afternoon, and really was the perfect end to our lovely Croatian holiday. We would highly recommend a visit to this gem of a restaurant!

I, my wife and a travel companion had seen the Croatian commercials (many many times) while vacationing in Italy. It worked (and we were looking for unvisited new locations). About a year ago I started doing my due diligence on Croatia. We use AMEX frequent flyer miles and generally prefer to travel to Europe late September or early October. After a slow start, I use JayWay to book the hotels and give us some advice. Glad we did. We ended up going last month because of Delta, easyJet, ferry schedules, etc.
First stop was Dubrovnik and the Villa Ruza. I sent them an email months ahead of time and had a wonderful experience on Wednesday, July 3. We stayed at the Villa Dubrovnik and took their shuttle boat into the old town harbor. We use the private shuttle from the harbor to Villa Ruza. The captain was great and his English excellent. We had a slight problem because we were told to go to a certain location in the harbor. As it ended up, the Captain was looking for us where the Villa Dubrovnik shuttle arrives. I borrowed a cell phone and soon found our Captain and were on our way to the restaurant.
Bottom line, emails answered promptly, private shuttle was costly (200E) and wonderful, food very good, service ~ the best, entertainment also wonderful and sunset, well thank you God. We are avid red wine lovers. Their recommended reds were full bodied and very nice. Not too busy and we enjoyed talking with the people at the next table. We enjoyed watching a boat right in front of the restaurant checking his lobster pots. He supplies lobster to Ruza. Our Captain waited for our return directly to our hotel.
Highly recommend the experience. Was a great introduction to the people and the beauty of Croatia.

After spending the whole day in the old town of Dubrovnik, this beautiful restaurant was a perfect opposite to the tourist trap feel of those old town spots. From the moment you stepped on the pier, Villa Ruza had a real quality feeling to it. Our waiter was excellent and had great recommendations for food. The only letdown was the wine, which was slightly bland in taste, but that was more than made up by the incredible atmosphere, really well prepared fish and shrimp dishes and the wonderful appetizers.

The only real negative was that tHe boat that was 50e for two for a return trip to Radisson felt like highway robbery, since the hotel and restaurant are under 2mi apart. The restaurant itself is definitely worth a visit though, maybe just not by the private boat. Instead, I'd spend those extra 50e on the incredible seafood, wonderful Croatian sparkling wine and the great service you can get at Villa Ruza.

I recently attended a wedding here and I have to say it was like something out of a movie. From the boat ride there, to sitting in the open air with every table overlooking the sea, it was a perfect venue. The staff provided extremely attentive service throughout the evening and everyone enjoyed the delicious food. This is a place I would highly recommend and will return to if my travels bring me back to the area.
