“Amazing location, food just as good!”

A total highlight of Kolocep island!
Visited Ruza with high expectations given the reviews on the site, and not disappointed. Brought a selection of freshly caught fish to the table that we chose to have cooked, great starters, fish filleted at the table with lovely accompaniment, desserts tasty and coffee with wine...all for around £100.
For the quality of food, service and setting a great price!

“Not much more I can add to the glowing reviews”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

We had lunch at the Villa Ruza on the last full day of holiday in Dubrovnik and, as they say, we left the best until last. We had a superb experience and meal reflected in our marks for the food, service, ambiance and setting.
We had the fresh Grouper (Kirnja) and the recommended white wine (Tarpan Ponente Malvazija Istarska) - a wonderful combination.
A lovely, sunny day in an open air restaurant, overlooking the sea and the village of Kolocep doesn't, as they say, get much better than that.
The restaurant is not the most accessible (you need to take the scheduled Jadrolinija ferry service (or an expensive water taxi) to get to Kolocep from the Dubrovnik) so it is easier to plan on having lunch rather than an evening meal if you are not staying on the island. The restaurant, however, recognised that we made a special effort to come to the island to eat with them and so they offered complimentary dessert or coffee.
Phone the restaurant to check when it opens as things can be quite relaxed. We believe, depending on the weather, that the restaurant will close for the season at the end of September.

“Hard to imagine that there is a better place to eat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

Sited amidst pine trees on a promontory at the edge of a bay on the beautiful island of Kolocep - Villa Ruza has a natural advantage which would be hard to surpass.
Add to that attentive service, good wine and great food - and the whole experience is one the most memorable that you could ever have, I think - anywhere. We ate there twice on a recent stay on the island and loved it both times - the first was the more magical, given the setting of the sun as we ate.
The food? Tempura prawns are worth a mention - although everything we had was perfectly cooked and very tasty - I had the best tuna steak that I have ever eaten, which was perfectly seasoned, soft, moist and melted in the mouth!
As we left after our second visit, the waiter commiserated with us, given the imminent end of our holiday - and said that we must come back next year. If only ...

“Absolutely outstanding”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

We had lunch here while on our honeymoon, and had an absolutely OUTSTANDING meal. It's a gorgeous location, and the fish we had was clearly just pulled out of the water before being grilled to perfection. It's an idyllic spot, and I'd HIGHLY recommend going with the wait staff's suggestions - it definitely put us well over the $35/person mark (WAY over, honestly) but was by far the best meal we had in Dubrovnik. We look forward to going back next time we're here!

“Beautiful setting but slightly disappointing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 11, 2012

We stayed on Kolocep for a week in August, and having read so many good reviews booked a table at Villa Ruza as a treat on the last evening. We had eaten for most nights of our stay at the konobo in Gornje Celo on the other side of the island and enjoyed some amazing freshly cooked seafood at great prices and lovely service, so Villa Ruza had a lot to live up to.
We arrived just as the sun was setting, and the views were certainly spectacular. Unfortunately we didn't have chance to enjoy them, and certainly no time to look at the menu before the waiter came over and started running through the specials. I mentioned that I was interested in eating fish and before I knew it he had produced a tray of the catch of the day, and we had ordered a whole bream. I felty slightly rail-roaded into the decison and although when the fish arrived it was perfectly cooked and beautifully served it wasn't worth the £60 it cost.
I was also disappointed by the prawn tempura starter: the sauces was delicious, but the batter was heavy and greasy.
Other than that the food and wine was delicious, and after the initial pushiness the service was friendly and efficient.
Overall we had a lovely evening - but I was just a little bit disappointed considering the cost.
