We stayed for a week in this beautiful hotel recently renovated by obviously sympathetic owners. The hotel was a Venetian summer residence for a nobleman of the walled city of Dubrovnik in the sixteenth century and the elegance of the building has been retained whilst all you could wish from a modern hotel has been added. The hotel is an oasis of calm from the hubbub of the city.We were treated with such kindness and friendliness by all the staff for the whole of our week's stay that we felt very much at home (albeit a far more elegant home than our own).
Breakfasts were delicious and because ordered entirely from the kitchen very fresh(the fruit platter a visual delight). The staff are very attentive and so we always had everything we could want(in fact there were times when they seemed to know I wanted something before I knew it myself!!!)
The hotel would be a half hour walk but the city buses run directly to the city for around three pounds return(or less with a bus pass).Just ask reception for details on this or anything else. They are only too willing to help and have a huge amount of info at their fingertips which they are happy to share.
Would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel

My partner and I were looking for a three night break in Europe and decided upon Dubrovnik, a place we had always wanted to visit. Next choice was where to stay, we checked Tripadvisor as we always do and Kazbek came up looking like a great option, the only concern being the distance from the old town ... in the end a needless worry.

So, we arrived around lunchtime, took the airport bus into town (K35 each one way) and from there (the bus station ) took the number 6 all the way to the hotel. Easy and only K90 in total or about £13. The number 6 runs every 15 mins so it is easy, but there are lots of cabs ... if they are not on strike ;o)

First impressions of the hotel were great, the lady on reception was really welcoming and it was a no hassle check in. The room met our expectations with a super comfy bed and good bathroom. Not massive, but fine for what we were looking for.

Next stop was the pool for the afternoon, it is around 70 F, so chilly, but a nice facility and we had it to ourselves. You can get drinks, but the staff are very "invisible" which is actually really nice, you feel that you have the run of the place.

Throughout our stay we used the number 6 buses to get into town, really easy, they drop you 100m from the hotel and it's about 300m to pick them up, the staff can help tell you where.

Breakfast was really relaxing, no menu, just asked what you want and it is very relaxining, no pressure, just sit and enjoy, if it is warm you can take it outside. Otherwise it is inside the restaurant. We did not eat here in the evenings, but the restaurant looks good and had a nice terrace looking out on water.

Throughout the stay the staff were really really helpful, the internet is free and we just found it really relaxing.

In short if you are looking for somewhere tranquil to stay, where you will feel peaceful and looked after, then we would recommend you look no further than here !

I spent 2 nights at the Kazbek. The hotel is lovely being a converted palace and its location just by the water was perfect. The bar, breakfast and reception staff, in particular Deni, were so helpful and went out of their way to make the stay perfect. It does takes about half an hour to walk to the old town or you can take a bus from outside the hotel. The lapad area of Dubrovnik however is walking distance and for any runners, there is easy access to a Coastal path nearby. Great for early evening strolls too.

Of all my excessive and heaavy rural, backwater travelling (and of all the hostels and hotels I have stayed at) this hotel was by far one of the most memorable and enjoyable.

As a professional Dominator, I saw this as an opportunity to escape the pressures of my work and chill out completely, and the experience certainly was worth it!

Kazbek was a beautiful, luxurious and peaceful hotel, which we fully appreciated after spending hours in Dubrovnik's Old Town. The service was impeccable and the pool was lovely. We spent the prior 4 days in Hvar in an apartment and wanted to spend the latter half of our vacation in a nice hotel and so we chose Kazbek. The major drawback is the location (which is also a positive if you want to get away) - it's a bit of a distance from the Old Town (about a 10-15 minute taxi ride) which can be annoying since that is where you spend most of your time, for both sightseeing and eating, so you have to plan well. We would ordinarily set out in the morning, do some sightseeing, have some lunch, take a dip off Buza Bar and do more sightseeing before heading back to the hotel to chill out / swim at the pool and again head out for dinner in town. Another thing is that our room had literally no view to speak of, which basically encouraged us to spend as little time as possible in there, which was probably a good thing.

Dear SlepStar,

I was delightd to read that you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for writing such a wonderful complimentary reveiw of your expereince with us here at the Kazbek hotel.
I am so pleased to know that you were happy with the service we provide and that you liked our pool.
As you noticed, our location is a bit outside the historical center of Dubrovnik, but on the other hand it is also our big advantage and your title describes it best "Oasis from the hordes and heat of the Old Town".
Being such a wonderful old and historical building from 16th century it has its drawbacks and one of them is the view from some of our rooms. As the building is protected as a cultural monument we couldn't change anything on its facade, but we do hope our interior design and atmosphere substitute it.
I do hope we will have the pleasure to welcome you back to Kazbek if your travel plans bring you back to Dubrovnik area.

Warm regards,

We stayed here for two wonderful nights in the off season. Service provided was excellent as are the amenities. Two suggestions for the hotel. 1) despite excellent room service, it would be nice to have in room tea and coffee available; 2) for those who do not enjoy large firm pillows, optional other ones would be nice.

I too am a first time reviewer despite having travelled extensively. But we had such a wonderful time at the Kazbek that it demands to be done.

We were a large family group (10 rooms, predominantly Irish) gathered from several countries to celebrate a birthday. I was embarking on the trip with some trepidation having selected both the destination and hotel. All I can say is that everything exceeded expectations. From the reservation process, through to the warm greeting upon arrival, and the excellent service over our prolonged breakfasts - never had so many or such good cappuccinos and fresh croissants - our large gatherings for evening cocktails and a couple of excellent dinners.

The rooms are beautifully kitted out, with reliable wifi as well as all the creature comforts. Breakfast is outdoors in the sunshine, or else in the lovely dining room with the vaulted stone ceiling.

We loved the walk to the Old City - managed frequently to turn 3 km into 5 km by getting turned around - and the candlelight concert in the church was beautiful. Of course one must walk the walls. The boat trip to the 3 islands was very enjoyable, and the trip to Mostar, where the driver added in several side-visits was very interesting. Croatian wine - and we had a lot of it - is terrific, both red and white.

So I would heartily recommend a journey to Dubrovnik, but especially if you are in the very excellent hands of the Kazbek.

Marion Cameron.
