The locals seem to have mixed views about Riva, but as a visitor I thought it was very pretty and added a modern, social charm to the otherwise beautiful old city.
Riva is full of cafes, icecream joints, little shops selling lavender and local knick knacks. The ocean view is calming and you can spot boats and ferries going about their day. It is spacious so except during extremely crowded periods, there is place to walk, stop, and sit on the little benches overlooking the sea. Great place to relax with a coffee or a beer, read a book, look into the ocean... It is everything a promenade should be and nothing that it shouldn't!

We loved Riva for the people watching and the cafes. A beautiful place to stroll or watch the world go by with a cold drink.

This is an amazing event- Discotheque Riva (mid August). On a Friday when we were there, they had a DJ one night playing 80s and 90s hits and family-friendly ABBA, and people were just dancing in the middle of the streets and Riva promeade. On Saturday, amazing DJs and international DJ Sebastian Ingrosso was spinning (I think it was 40 euros per ticket, he didn't go on until 2am). I highly recommend this for people who like partying.

Besides this festival, the Riva is packed with tourists and interesting to walk up and down at night time.

We loved walking around at night - there are tons of vendors (the fried dough balls are amazing!!) and live music. It's great to be right on the water and there are a lot of little restaurants and cafes to enjoy a drink and watch the people.

My friend and I walked along the harbor on a sunday night. It was not crowded at all and was incredibly peaceful Many young families were out with their babies and dogs. The bars along the way were full..surprising to me was that I did not find the music overly loud which can happen. A great place to watch people and am sure in the daytime to watch the boats.
