i think jewish ashkenazi synagogue is one of the best parts of old Split because it shows that Split is multicultural Mediterranean city and there are so many small loving streets and beautiful southern European houses with those little windows that people call škure and it's really loving and it's beautiful <3

“Immerse yourself in history”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We loved extended rambles through this beautiful old town, with its interesting shops, great museums and numerous bars and restaurants. The children (8 and 11) loved the home-made ice cream on every corner, and the beautiful water front with stands for fresh doughnuts, freshly squeezed juices, and balloons. Overall a place to spend more than a day or two.

We took a day trip from Trogir to Split by ferry. Be aware that after 16.30 there is only one ferry back at 20.00 hrs. They are not as regular as you think. However, Split s a vibrant town and the place to be seen is on the waterfront. However, go into the back streets and you will find the old city with it's narrow streets and great architecture. We had a personalised tour from the couple that we rented our apartments from. So we got to hear some of the history. There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars and great for shopping. If you walk up towards the bus station you will find a fantastic market selling fresh fruit and all sorts. We just went for the day, we took the 11.15 ferry there and because we did not want to wait for the 8pm ferry we took the bus back which got us back in half the time.

“Different experience”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

We were on a cruise and stopped here for the day. The chance to see an old Palace that although changed , was a delight. Deocetlian, The emperor was born around here and died at his Palace and you can visit the Temple in the grounds. Markets, shops and just a nice people that don't seem to have any dis engaging arrogance. Accessable especially from the ship as it's on the waterfront. I had the feeling that everyone was approachable and although ouside of shops, english was difficult , it didn't seem to matter. I bought a Roman coin that yurned out to be minted in the area and in the time frome of Deocetlians life . I went away quite happy.

“fell in love with Split”
Reviewed June 22, 2013

LOVED LOVED LOVED Split, what an incredible friendly amazing place. So much character, history and wonderful people. Peristil Square is a fantastic spot to sit on the steps and listen to live music at night and just wait till you walk into the Vestibule and hear the acapello singers during the day, sensational! The cute and adoring streets winding themselves into other squares and interesting cafes and restaurants and bars. My tip is take a guided tour to hear the history of Split and Diocletian Palace, very interesting.
