“An Undiscovered Treasure”
Reviewed May 15, 2014 via mobile

What a gem of a find!! Only in their second season this lovely boutique hotel, a ten minute walk to Diocletian's Palace, has every amenity. Spacious attractive rooms overlooking a small terrence garden, very contemporary bathrooms and a gracious and helpful staff who provided candid and accurate suggestions for everything from outstanding restaurants to cab fare estimates,

Open only since August 14, 2013, this has been a great find for us. Located just a 5 minute walk from the Riva, this friendly, small (14 rooms) hotel has all the amenities you need. We found the staff to be super. The hardest thing is to find the front door, it's on a small back alley.

The rooms have a large screen TV, brand new bathrooms with great hot water. Dark curtain to help you adjust to your jet lag. Beds are mostly singles and comfortable with 2 pillows each and divine duvets. Elevator for upper floors (4 in all).

Later this month (May 2014) they should be opening the restaurant, and dining will be available outside on the terrace, which has a beautiful small park/grassy area.

Our special thanks to the staff, Anna, Sonja, and Iris at the front desk, and every morning a full European style breakfast served up by Martina. All managed well by Slavko, one of the two investors.

It took them five years to get all the permits, so go see them. We'll be back.

I have traveled throughout Western and Eastern Europe and rarely do you find a gem such as the Hotel Marul! It's located within a few minutes walking distance from the old city and yet not too close that you can't take an excursion to the surrounding countryside. The rooms are top notch providing a spacious room, luxurious bed and bathrooms that are clean, very modern and unlike anything you will see in the rest of the Balkans. The staff is wonderful, personable and knowledgable - everyone of them. I spent 4 days at this establishment. I can recommend it as a hotel everyone should stay at.

My wife and I, together with 2 other couples stayed here for one night only prior to a sailing cruise in September 2013.
I can do no better than confirm all the positive reports in the other reviews. What stood out above all for us (besides the lovely rooms and quiet location so close to the hustle and bustle of the touristy part of Split), was the friendliness and helpfulness of each member of staff and the owner. They even agreed to keep some fresh fruit which we bought for the cruise in the hotel fridge for us! They organised private secure parking and the owner personally took us to the parking garage and harbour (including all our food and baggage). Even though none of us needed accommodation after returning from the sailing trip, the owner collected us from the marina, took us to our car and the rest of the group to the hotel where their baggage was stored for the day. In the late afternoon the rest of the group was taken to the airport. Naturally the transport costs were extra, but it was fairly priced for such a personalised service.

The biggest problem was finding the hotel when we arrived. It is best to park in the paid public parking lot about 50 metres from the hotel and take the easy stroll down the pedestrian walkway to the hotel (look at the maps beforehand for the parking lot). As the hotel had no clear street sign yet, it was quite difficult to find – I walked past the entrance door several times without noticing it.
Other negative point we did not have which won’t be solved once the hotel is fully up and running. The owner personally apologised beforehand for items such as towel rails which had not yet been installed.
Once the breakfast room is up and running it will prove to be an excellent choice as classy business hotel.

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are equally quiet and even the standard rooms are a wonderful choice for a disce...
