You really can't beat the ancient ruins overlooking the water. Loads of wonderful cafes close by. Where else can you shop in the basement of an ancient Roman emperor's palace?!

“Visit the Palace Basement”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Diocletian's Palace is an wonderful place to visit. Make sure you tour the underground area. Don't just tour the shops. The highlight of our tour was turning a corner and hearing the local a cappella singers, called Klappa singers. The group we heard was singing in a circular walled in area, open to the sky, and the acoustics were amazing. As a singer myself, I immediately plopped down my money for one of their CDs. I am still awed by their skill. The only downside was that we had to move on. I could have listened to them all day.

the most interesting site in Split. We had a tour guide explaining all about Diocletian and how the palace has been used over the years.

“Interesting history”

You need a guide to get the best out of the palace. The history is fascinating. In season, I expect you need to get there early to avoid the crowds

Great place to walk around and get *lost*. Many shops and cafes along the way. Cobble stoned walkways. Many locals stroll here too
