Diocletian's palace started life and continued as a working building as it is now, and we felt it works well. It is good to see the alleyways clustered with shops and activity. Sure, there are some junky tourist shops but there are also up market boutiques, restaurants and apartments - exactly as a working palace should be. I think it helps to maintain the character and there are sufficient reminders of the historical significance so we don't lose the plot. I think it's well done and is definitely the Number One Visit when in Split
