I believe after trying all restaurants in Split that this is best grilled meal you can find in Split. Not to mention the shopska salade that is a must try beans also. Desert baklava is also beyoung expectations if you have any room left. Recommend to all before everyone find out how good it is, then will be no room!;)

Just few days ago we went to the small place in our neighborhood called 'Makedonska Kuca'. In English, that's 'The Macedonian House', so, just by the name, you can pretty much tell what you can expect.

And that's exactly how it is. Although located in Split, in heart of Dalmatia, this little restaurant serves Macedonian cuisine only. No seafood, no pizza, no pasta... Not too many dishes on the menu, but the things they have, they make them good. At least I can say that for the 'Gravce na tavce' & 'Gurmanska pljeskavica' - gratinated beans with sausage and a burger stuffed with 'kaymak' cream. Grilled meat was very, very nicely prepared, not over burnt, juicy and full of taste.

And although we've stuffed ourselves up to our necks, next morning we woke up as lights as feathers - one more indication that the meat was really a top quality.

During the summer, when all Old Town center restaurants and pizzeria's are crowding, with sky-high prices, this little place serves big portions, charges small prices, and makes great dishes.

If you're asking for white cloths, wine carts (although they do serve wine) & very pricey sea food, go to one of many shore - located restaurants in Split.

If you're looking for some very, very, tasty cheap grill - go to Makedonska kuca.

I'm definitely going back.

P.S.
They are still running CASH ONLY!!!

Small restaurant (7 tables only) offering national Macedonian food, mainly grilled meat with side dishes. For my taste a bit light but if you want it spicy you should tell it to the waiter when ordering. Must try - "Gravce na tavce" (gratinated beans with sausage) and Sopska salata ( tomatoes, cucumbers and pepper with cheese). Nearby parking lot and bowling centre - suggest 1 hour fun at bowling centre and meal afterwards.

The Makedohska Kuca is a new restaurant in Split, but is not in the centre. To get there you can catch a number 15 or 18 bus from Split market off the sea front, ask the bus driver to drop you off at Split 3 area showing the restaurant name and he should drop you off in the area. It is worth a ride on the bus if you like spicy food and meat as that is their main menu, there is seating for twenty inside and another twelve seats outside. Most meals start at 30 Kuna (£3.00), which are meat dishes they also do small and large salads and sandwiches all at very good prices. The food is freshly cooked so there is a wait while it is prepared and the chef cooks it, the wine is very reasonably price and on our visit the beer was ice cold. Compared to Split centre the prices are almost half, for the same type of dishes. But don’t expect a fast service, as this is a Mediterranean style where you sit and enjoy talking and drinking while the food is prepared. On the tables are little dishes of medium hot spices, which you can add to your meals even the salads. On our visit two of us had the mixed meat platter, of which there are two sizes. We went for the large one that had meat stuffed with cheese, sausages wrapped in Dalmatian ham, little sausages, meat mixed in spice, chips and a little salad. Others in the group had stuffed chicken with cheese and another had a mixed meat goulash served in its own dish. There is no desert menu, so after the meal you can walk down to Prima 3 shopping centre where there are some café-bars severing ice cream and plenty of buses that go back to the centre. We all enjoyed our meals, and said we would return there another day without question. The restaurant only takes cash that is how it keeps its prices down; the menu is only in Croatian so a translating book is a handy thing to have at hand as the waitress who served us did not speak English. One of things we found on this visit, was that round the back under the restaurant is a ten-pin bowling alley that charges by the hour. During the day it is 60 Kuna and the prices go up the later it gets into the night, weekdays it is open until 1 am and 2am on weekends (Fri.-Sat). Also in the bar-bowling alley called Octopus, there are pool tables, pinball, football etc machines just the place for a rainy day or if you have had too much sun. We were all too full from Makedohska to play on this visit, but have noted it for future use.

Minimum order 35 kuna
