We arrived the beautifully located room/studio overlooking the palace and were totally amazed. We also were met with a friendly host who handed over the keys and did the necessary explanations.

After settling in however, we started to see deeper into things and our impression changed. Don't get me wrong, the place is still fantastically located. What changed our opinion was that the cleanliness of the place especially the bathroom. The toilet itself had clear marks of usage (to put it nicely) which you could see when lifting the lid and/or seat, which I simply removed with a wet toiletpaper (meaning it was the lack of cleaning and not permanent stains). The trash had not been emptied from previous guests. The tap on both shower and basin had dirty marks on them. The same applies to the spot between the taps and where they are mounted (filled with dirt). Finally the 2 shelfes inside the shower for putting your shampoo and showergel was super dirty and simply disgustibg for me to even touch. After seeing this kind of lack of cleanliness I started to think about these places one hears about that uses the same toiletbrush to clean everything. I am not saying the did that here but I just did not get a nice feeling and have to admit I was happy we were only staying that one night. Bedding seemed clean but then again who knows.

The internett was also not working (wifi) although the add claimed they had internett. This alone would not be a point to comment for me, but when combined with lack of hygene I think it is worth mentioning.

We have informed the nice guy who checked us in about the cleanliness, which he seemed not to know anything about. Now it will be up to the next guest to see if they have manged to do something with this and if so, whether they will keep it up. I certainly hope so, because the place itself was beautiful and a shame not to be in better condition.

We will not stay here nex time unless we are certain they have done some serious improvement.

We stayed at the room in Alješijeva street for 3 nights. Booked through booking.com. E-mail and mobile of the owner was given and I called the owner and met at a meeting point to be guided to the room. Ohterwise we would have great difficulties in finding the place. Lovely decoraction, clean and fresh. well equipped, comfy bed, coffe-tea-sugar and milk free of charge. All in all - very satisfied with this stay.

We enjoyed staying in two pleasant little one-room apartments with kitchenette, a few minutes' walk from the centre of Split. Kitchen was very rudimentary, and no use if you wanted to make four course meals, but fine for coffee, sandwiches and the occasional family pasta. No bottle opener or corckscrew! Proximity to the old town meant we could choose to eat out whenever we chose, and dash back if we forgot a phone or camera. The administration was fairly casual once we had moved in (they were very helpful before); we asked for a few new electric bulbs several times but they did not replace them. The internet was patchy until we located the router and figured out that we had to unplug it to reset each morning, then it was fine. We had a comfortable week here as a family of five, and would come again, with realistic expectations.

Slap bang in the centre of Split, Dioclectian's Rooms is an ideal base for visitors who don't plan on spending much time resting!

As we stepped off the airport shuttle bus, we were greeted by the most helpful owner, Mirko who walked us to the accommodation, which was just a 2 minute stroll from the waterfront. Mirko's in-the-know tips on Split's must-see spots, best beaches & restaurants helped forge our few days' stay and was truly invaluable.

The room itself is basic and small but impeccably clean and fully equipped with TV, air-con and small kitchen area.

Diocletians Rooms is tucked away off the main street/waterfront, which is home to the majority of the city's bars and restaurants - you can't ask for a better location!

We would unreservedly recommend this to anyone staying in Split!

Upon arriving at Diocletian's Rooms in central Split, you suddenly realize you're at the center of thousands of years of history right at your doorstep. I can't stop thinking about how special this place is for the average traveler.

Being that this is an apartment rental and not a hotel, you pay a great price for an amazing location with just the necessary do-it-yourself amenities. Pay with cash, arrange a meeting with management to get in (theres no lobby/reception) and voila, you're set.

Through a few emails off the website, I arranged a meet up with Matea and easily got into my top floor room. Keep in mind, the building is old and only steps are available (5 total flights) so book your room accordingly. Also, the beautiful cathedral is right outside your window so be prepared for lots of bells. Still, why not engulf yourself in the music of hundreds of years?

Finally, the room is great with the right amount of amenities and while there's no tv, why bother, you hear echoes of musical entertainment from the guitarist at the neighboring Luxor restaurant next door and you're steps from all sorts of food and drink options. Get out! Soak it in! Wifi is everywhere!

Oh, and Matea knows the area for tours, food, drink, coffee, etc. Ask her anything and she'll gladly help.
