We had received an e-mail from the booking agency stating that reception closed at 11 p.m. and we were running late due to bad weather. We tried calling the phone number provided several times but no answer, the phone was off. Finding the place was difficult, as it is on a very small street. It was only on our 2nd visit to the building (we had gone around the corner to try calling yet again) that we noticed the sign saying reception (actually owner Josip's apartment) is on the 3rd floor. Once we knocked on the door Josip was waiting for us and apologetic, but it would have been nice to have known exactly where reception was.
The apartment we had was spacious (except for a very small, windowless 2nd bedroom that we did not use) and very clean. Furnishings are nothing special and kitchen dishes looked to be 2nd-hand, but then this is a moderate-price establishment. It is a bit of a walk to the old town (about 15 min to the edge, a bit longer to get all the way to the water), but you've got easy access by car to other parts of Split. You may end up parking a block or so away, but that's par for the course in this crowded section of town.
It's a decent place to stay if you want a bit more room plus clothes washing and kitchen facilities. Josip is a very nice host, despite our initial communication difficulties. Just be sure that if you're driving, you have VERY good directions.
