Once again I made it to Kharkov. After 2 weeks here, and several disappointing restaurants, my girl friend decided we should go to blues for my last night in Kharkov. I couldn't be happier that we did!
We had a great evening, the food was excellent! Service excellent! Dinner, drinks, coffee, and desert for about $75 usd.
I will be back again and I encourage everyone to give it a try!

When I first arrived in Kharkov my date suggested we go to blues as she has heard good things about them. Upon entering the lounge area I found it to be quite and cozy, a perfect fit for what I was looking for after traveling 28 hours to get to Kharkov. Once the staff discovered I was from the state the immediately got me a English menu and the waiter also spoke to me in English and was great! Great first impression of Kharkov.
The second time we decided to go to blues was even better! This time we were sat in the restaurant and I might add by a very beautiful and friendly hostess. The live music was excellant, and our waiter was the same man and even remembered us and the wine we had drank 2 weeks earlier and was very accommodating when the ladies I was with decided it was time for me to have a little taste of Ukrainian vodka.
I hope this is helpful to anyone reading it and that your experience will be as great as ours! Happy travels!

We failed to find much feedback on the Blues, yet inspired by the blues session at the Jazzster (see separate review), decided to go on with the blues theme. Good thinking - the dinner at the Blues turned out very enjoyable.

It’s hard to miss the place as you walk along Pushkinska Street - there is an outdoor sculpture of a sax player in front of it. Cafe Blues occupies the ground floor, and the restaurant is on the first floor. Since recently, there is also a small hotel on the second floor.

We booked a table in the restaurant, but happened to be the only guests there on Monday night (till about our dessert was served). Thus we got all attention from the waiting staff, who were pleasant and fast.

The menu is not too extensive, and the wine list is modest; yet few wines were served by glass. Red Georgian semi-dry Pirosmani was not the best I’ve ever tried.

We started with Caprice salad of chicken, pine-apple and pear [ca USD 4.5] and Mussels with vegetables [USD 5.1], followed by barbecue pork [USD 9.25] for my friend and veal medallions with white mushrooms [USD 13.25] for me, and some spinach as a side dish [USD 3.6]. Their presentation was a bit rough, but every piece tasted delicious, and the sauces were all appropriate.

For the dessert, I decided on Profiteroles with chocolate topping [USD 3]. They turned out to also have a chocolate filling, so were too sweet, all in all. The waitress said these were purchased, not in-house made, and recommended an apple pie with caramel sauce instead [USD 4.5]. Amaretto coffee and the Blues coffee (with Malibu and cognac) were a nice ending to the dinner.

I found the bill of about USD 37 per person, including drinks, but without service, a very good value for the pleasant night we had. Credit cards are accepted.

Jazz theme is preserved in the rather pretentious yet cozy interior, and there is a stage for the band in the smoking hall. Unfortunately, the night we were there no live music was played. But the background jazz also created an intimate relaxing atmosphere. Apart from the dining halls, there is also a balcony for the outdoor sitting in summer.

Perhaps not the best in Kharkiv, the Blues restaurant is still a very good place to enjoy fine food in a relaxing atmosphere.
