Charming hotel with the atmosphere of a B&B. An incredible staff assisted in every way. Their porter bought us ballet tickets and even went to a pharmacy with us to find the proper medication. Their extensive continental breakfast was excellent and so were the breakfast restaurants for which they gave us $9 each.

Travelled to Odessa by business reason for the very first time. Loved the city, liked the hotel (located very centrally).
Hotel has a website, they reply in a timely manner with relevant details.
http://www.ayvazovsky.com.ua/index_en.php
Hotel has, as I remember, 3 floors with standard and half-lux, lux type of rooms. I stayed in standard, which had enough space in a room, clean & comfortable bed.
Breakfast is served either to room door (they don't have own kitchen) or to nearby cafe (by voucher). We took Buffalo and were very satisfied by breakfast there.
I found staff is helpful and attentive (they speak fluent English, have enough maps of the city, could give advices.).
Recommended indeed.

The hotel has only rooms. Breakfast has to be ordered in time and in served in your room. After 09.00 hrs. you could also visit a external restaurant on a few minutes walking for breakfast. The hotel is located in the centre and on a excelent location to visit the city by foot. It looks like it just had been totaly renovated in a old style.

I had the pleasure of staying in this hotel, 4-11 February 2011. It is right downtown Odessa, within easy walking distance of many attractions, restaurants, clubs and shops. Even though it is on a busy street, I didn't hear any street noise at night and my room (#205) was in the front of the hotel. I had a "junior suite", which is just a larger room and not multiple rooms. However, the room was very good-sized, with a very comfortable oversize double bed, a desk with chair, two other chairs with a small table between them and a TV. I didn't watch much TV because there were no English language channels available. The closet was large and had drawers. The bathroom was rather small and just contained a shower, no tub. But it was very adequate and always had plenty of hot water. There is no restaurant, but you are given a voucher to use at a couple of local restaurants, within a few blocks of the hotel. I ate in both of them and they were quite good. The voucher is worth 70 UAH, which was about $8.80 USD. There is a Western Union office and a place to change money, right next door to the hotel and there is a small grocery store a little less than two blocks south of the hotel, on the same street. The hotel is very nicely decorated, with many beautiful oil paintings and carpets and drapes. It also has a small, but good elevator. The best thing about the place are the front desk clerks, Olga, Sasha, Anna and Igor! They are very friendly and helpful and answered my many questions during the time I stayed there. All spoke English and I had no problems conversing with them. If all hotels had personnel like these folks working at them, it would be a real pleasure to stay there! I had a good stay there and I would stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

The Ayvazovsky hotel is a small hotel located within walking distance to the Opera house and the Potemkin stairs. I stayed in Executive One-room, which didn't have a window, but a skylight. The room was cozy and came with a double bed, desk, TV, and a small coffee table. The bathroom was spacious enough, but came with a standing shower, which made it somewhat uncomfortable. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, the breakfast is provided at a nearby restaurant or as room service. Hotel staff are very helpful.

Cons: My room was very hot and I kept the skylight open which required dragging a chair to open it. I could also hear neighbor's TV (thankfully, he checked in during my last night there). I thought it was expensive for what we got; for the same price, we could have stayed in a hotel that had on-location breakfast and a gym/spa (for a business traveler, an on-site gym is a blessing).

Bottom line - it's a fine, clean and safe hotel to stay in as a tourist, as a business traveler who wants those little extras, I would recommend another hotel.

I've been 3 days in this charming hotel and I'm quite satisfied.
Old building, but provided with all facilities. In Odessa you can't find werstern standard in all hotels. This hotel is very, very good!!! Excellent the service (english speaking), wifi in all rooms, clean, modern, good bathrooms, rooms are very large! Good position in the city center, just 200 meters to Deribasovskaya (city center main road). Only one little problem: you have to take the breakfast in one of 2 restaurants just few steps far (the better is Buffalo99). Best value for price!

If you want to stay in a centrally located, well-run hotel in Odessa, at prices that are very high for local standards but reasonable for western standards - the Ayvazovsky is your place! Very helpful staff, all of whom speak English very well, top amenities (like a small safe in the room), and very good location. Breakfast is two nearby restaurants is very good. The Ayvazovsky is newly renovated. You will not feel like you are in the Ukraine as long as you are INSIDE the hotel, however.
