Most beautiful interior I have ever seen. Ballet is also a bargain...great value. Must see on Odessa visit. A definite A+++.

This place is amazing!!! I did the research on the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Odessa and it's history is noteworthy. This is a must if you visit Odessa. You can't even get it all in one pic. Zoom out and click away with your camera!

dont even think about not seeing a play on this amazing historic building. i am not into operas so i cant rate the play i watched yet the ambiance was relaxing and touching. you loose just a few dollars if you dont like the performance but gain tremendous feelings..dont pay too much for the opera tours you can buy your own ticket before the play starts from the ticket counter even if you dont speak any russian like me..the lady from the old soviet period will yell at you while you re purchasing.. dont afraid she is just asking what kind of ticket you want.. seats in galeria (25 uah-october 2012) would do if you are not a opera guy type.. pls dont take pics after the performance starts.. some people do that....feel the place..

Odessa Opera Theater looks splendid outside, after years of renovations. It's a beautiful XVIIIth century building, richly decorated and looking like a wedding cake.
Performances, though, leave a lot to be desired. The stage is tiny, by modern standards, so there is not enough space for spectacular settings. Ballet performers are mostly dancers, who are not demanded by better theater comanies, like those in Moscow or in Kiev. They're not top of their profession, really. When we were watching "The Sleeping Beauty", the Prince Charming simply fell on the floor...
Tip: enjoy the exterior, and don't expect too much inside.

What a gorgeous opera house. A real gem of Odessa and beautifully restored. It would be a treat to see a performance.
