Resort & SPA Hotel NEMO with dolphins
Ranked #16 of 87 Hotels in Odessa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 20, 2013

We chose this hotel maily because of the location (at the sea but at the same time pretty close to the city center) and... dolphins (we were traveling with a little child and they seemed to be a good attraction for her). And these two definitely didn't disappoint us. But... And here the story begins. After booking a room (a presidential suite) in the internet I sent an email (in English) to the hotel asking few questions i.e. about baby cot or a kettle (to boil water for baby's milk). No answer. So I asked my husband who spoke Russian to call them. "Our system doesn't work, call us tomorrow" - he heard. That was a message heard four times, four consecutive days. Finally we were told that they didn't have our reservation... We needed to re-book it twice!. Then, during our stay, we saw people at the reception trying to convince that they had made a reservation... So it is better to call them twice or more to make sure the booking is done.

We chose a presidential suite because we wanted to have a separate room for a baby. There was a separate room however with a sliding glass door so both the light and sounds from the other one couldn't be separated. Actually it wasn't dark in the suite even at night because of the little window above the entry door and there was a light switched on in the corridor the whole nights. Moreover the entry door had a big gap at the bottom so all kind of sounds and noise was heard from the corridor as well. If talking about noise... There was a discoteque at the pool till 2am...

Positives: definitely the pools (big ones, clean). Also dolphins (being a hotel guest you can see the show for free, but first you need to ask reception for a "ticket". "ticket" is a hand-written piece of paper which needs to be exchanged into a "real ticket". Nobody told us about that detail so when we went to see the show all real tickets were already gone... But fortunately we could see dolphins practicing and resting in their pool.

Restaurant - the food is rather average and we needed to wait 45 min to have breakfast (no buffet). And be prepared to pay for it immediately (there is no possibility to add it to the room bill).

The hotel is still under construction. There is no special noise because of it but some strange situations like workers just behind your window or you can not go to the pools directly from the hotel (first you need to acquire a bracelet, get out from the hotel and get to the pools from the other side of the building) because this part is still not finished.

Other positives: friendly staff but... Sometimes you need to wait a long time to see anybody in the reception. And definitely it is better to speak Russian...

Stayed at this fantastic hotel in September for 10 Days, it is located right on the sea front of the Black Sea in Odessa. From the hotel entrance to the sea is around a 3 minute walk, where you have fantastic views and and nice places to sit and relax and take in the view.

The hotel itself is very modern and when I was there there was a new section of the hotel being built, but I never had any problems with the noise of the building work, as it was away from the main hotel. The hotel is around a 10 minute taxi ride from the main town of Odessa, where there are plenty of sites to see and restaurants that catered for every pocket, the main ton has a very cosmopolitan feel about it, cobbled streets and out door cafes and bars.

Our room had a balcony where you could sit and look out at sea, the room itself was very large and had a separate bedroom and bathroom and the main living area of the room had a large jacuzzi. The room had full air conditioning and had a large flat screen TV with DVD player and satellite TV.

Now for the best part of the Hotel, the hotel has its own Dolphin pool where they have shows with their Dolphins and Whales, they have a very professional show in the evening, where they have dancers and singers and acrobats before the actual dolphins perform, a real must if you have children to go and watch this fantastic show.

You can even have a photo with the dolphins afterwards or during the day arrange to swim with the dolphins, this hotel also provides Dolphin Therapy for children with learning disorders. By the way, if you stay at the hotel, the dolphin show is free to attend.

If you want to eat at the hotel then they have a fantastic restaurant on the roof of the hotel, where you can eat inside or outside on their sun terrace, the sun terrace has a dip pool, shower and large jacuzzi, and you can over look the Dolphin show whilst you relax and have your meal or drink.

If you are going to Odessa, please check out this fantastic hotel, you will not be disappointed.

hello all, i went with my wife to enjoy the dolphins show on Feb 14th that been told to be fantastic. The reality is that, the whole experience was not good at all.

VENUE
first, safety issues to enter the room no having any emergency exits and only one small spinning door where around 1000 people must use to enter and leave the room. The dolphinarium is a enclose place and small. If you have any kind of disability, be sure to book your tickets in first row otherwise..they wont care about you and let you go all the way up to your sits.

SHOW
the show sucks!!! they have some circus acts that really, THEY NEED QUIT THEIR JOBS!!! there was a sax player that seems to me that he was dead, playing depressing songs and bored, after a ballet that...better don't write nothing about it... and really... sucks!!! 60 minutes of bored and sucks acts!!!
The real show is when the sea lions and dolphins comes up, awesome!!!! AWESOME!!! i would rather spend 30 minutes watching a short show that all the garbage acts in the preview!

so if you thinking to go the night show in Nemo dolphinarium, bring a pillow and a gas mask cause the pyrotechnic in the venue, fills the room with it!.

We choose a room with a balcony/sea view and jacuzzi at $150/night, including free wi fi, excluding breakfast. There is also a $100 option that has no balcony or jacuzzi and is smaller. Staff are quite formal and professional. There is a rooftop restaurant and small saltwater pool which looks out to sea. Food is reasonably good and international in style. Guests get free tickets for the dolphin show, which my wife and I enjoyed immensely, not having seen one before. Highly-trained girls, who resembled ballet dancers, performed amazing routines with these charming and intelligent creatures. Be warned that the hotel is still under construction, but it didn't cause us any problems.

I reserved this room, because my apartment was being renovated in Odessa. I thought it would be a lot of fun to stay here. It is a unique experience. My room was very small, but comfortable and well maintained and clean. The bed was ok. It was great compared to standard Ukrainian beds, but if you are American or European, it kinda sucks. The restaurant is fantastic. It takes a long time, though, since they prepare everything when you order. Service is great. The dolphin show are very good. I've never seen some of the tricks, and they try to mix it up. The views are incredible from my room. And, considering the location, it's fairly cheap. There is plenty of things to run around and see. And you can swim with the dolphins one on one, not in a group like other places. That's pretty cool. The internet is unlimited, and highspeed like America, so no problems with downloads.

HOWEVER, there are several things that bring this hotel into the Major Suck category. First problem is the dolphins. It's cool to see them, but they are really really noisy all night. It was fun the first night, after that it just keeps you up. Second thing that makes it suck is the club right near it. At Midnight without fail, "thump thump thump" till the sun rises. It sounds like it's in your room, and your bed vibrates with it, so if you managed to sleep through the dolphins, the club shakes you awake. Third, the beach is cement. You can walk down cement steps and get in the water, but the sea around Odessa is pretty dirty. And there is NO SAND. It used to be a bunch of piers here, so the cement runs straight into the sea. To lay out, you have to rent a lounger, or lay on the cement. Russians are cheap and tough, so the only people I saw in loungers were fat Americans. Lastly, the staff doesn't speak English, so take your laptop around and have it on Google Translate.

Back to the positives: The pool and hottub are very nice, and high up so you can look at the sea. You can watch the moon rise over the water. That's awesome too.

Back to suck: HOWEVER, most of the hotel is not done, so there is construction all day long. Once it's done, it should be a wonderful place to spend A SINGLE DAY. You would be better off renting an apartment in the city center, and taking a taxi to see it. Also, there are no banks nearby, so if you need to get money you have to go to town anyway. And not that many hot chicks here.

Room Tip: Either go Presidential Suite, or stay in the Center, and take a taxi to the hotel to see the dolphin...
