Our guide was Julia. She gave us a great tour of the city and we had an excellent lunch. Our favorite was the inside of the opera house. Olga made the arrangements and was a great communicator.

Based on the many excellent reviews of Odessa Walks, I contacted Olga several months prior to our stop in Odessa on our Black Sea cruise. She responded quickly and with exactly the information I requested about several possible tours. We booked the 3-hour Walking Tour of the Highlights of Odessa followed by the tour of the Catacombs. Both were excellent tours which were highlights of our cruise.

Olga arranged to meet us right as we got off the ship on the morning of our tours and there she was at the appointed time with a sign bearing our name. (Odessa Walks specializes in small tour groups, but since nobody else from our cruise ship had booked the Highlights Walking Tour, we had Olga as our private tour guide--lucky us!) We found Olga's English perfect (not surprising since she told us she has a graduate degree from a U.S. university) and she was friendly and personable. Her knowledge of the city's history and architecture was amazing and we especially appreciated the information about lesser-known aspects of the city. For example, she took us into the courtyard of one lovely apartment building where we could see that the interior did not match the grandeur of the exterior (and she told us why). This tour lasted around 3.5 hours and I felt as if we had seen ALL of the best of the old city of Odessa. Note: You must be prepared for a lot of walking on this tour and you also need to be able to walk up the Potemkin Steps as the funicular does not begin operation until well after Olga's tour. begins.)

After the Walking Tour, we met our driver who took us to the Catacombs, located about 15 km outside of the city center of Odessa. The tour there was led by an employee of the Catacombs who spoke only Russian, but Olga accompanied us and provided a translation. We found the catacombs fascinating and after the tour, Olga took us aside and told us some things not included on the "official" tour which made our experience even better.

During our tour with Olga, we saw some of the groups who were doing the ship's excursion and were so glad that we were not in those huge groups (30+) which were not able to go places and see things that we could with Olga and Odessa Walks. I highly recommend this company.

We contacted Olga 2 months before our scheduled port stop on the Azamara Journey on May 30th. When we arrived, she was waiting for us at the pier. Although we were the 1st from our cruise to contact Odessa Walks for the tour we wanted, (there were originally 4 in our group), 3 other couples on our cruise also wanted to experience the Jewish Heritage and Old Town Odessa tour. Olga contacted us 1st to ask permission to expand our group size, which was okay with us. Olga was very knowledgeable about the Jewish history of Odessa and we saw more interesting places than we expected. Olga speaks fluent English, having studied in the USA.

We contacted Olga a couple of months prior to our trip to the Ukraine. Her name came up on trip advisor with excellent reviews, and after having toured Moldovanka with her I can only confirm what other travelers wrote. Olga met us promptly at our hotel and for the next four morning hours we got an idea of how Odessa Jewish life was and what remains of it. Olga's command of English was excellent and her way of showing us places, dynamic and entertaining.
Included in the very reasonably priced tour was a car ride to the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Cemetery. I would recommend reading,
a priori to the tour, some Shalom Aleichem ( The adventures of Menahem Mendel ), Bialik ( El hatzipor) , Yabotinsky's bio , Isaac Babel ( Odessa stories) , biography of Meir Dizenghoff and the recently published "Odessa" by Charles King.
Having said all that, I wish you a good trip and a very pleasant visit guided by the very professional Olga !

Exceptional guided tour by an exceptional guide. Great command of English. Olga was friendly and outgoing, extremely knowledgeable about Odessa history, and was able to add interesting facts about everything we saw. We took the morning "Odessa thru the Centuries" tour.... not to be missed, as it works thru the scenic back streets of the city. In the evening, Olga was able to procure seats from the Opera so we could tour this world class Opera House. What an incredible building, with incredible decor and architecture. Since she was able to acquire the cheapest of seats, we were able to tour the building without worrying about staying for the show (or not, as one could choose). Well worth the price. One of the best guides we have encountered.
