“Great budget choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 26, 2012

This was a great break from hostels, offers comfort and privacy at a great low price.
Staff were very welcoming. We stayed there twice on our trip and would highly recommend Hotel Burkhard to any budget conscious traveller.

We originally intended to stay in Antigua for a couple of nights. Hotel Burkhard offered excellent rates and a convenient location.
The room was very comfortable and the showers always hot.
The staff went beyond the normal call of duty to make our stay enjoyable and provide us with local information.
Due to unforseen circumstances we stayed for over a week and if we came back we would not hesitate in booking a room again.

Room Tip: Room 24 (massive bed) or any upstairs room as they are lighter.

I first stayed at Hotel Burkhard in September 2011, while visting my boyfriend. This was my 4th time in Guatemala and I knew instantly that this was by far the best place to stay overnight that I had ever come across while traveling the country. As a budget traveler I am very cost conscience and couldn't believe the amazingly low price we were paying for such a great property. Not only is the price great, but the location is perfect *A short walk to/from my favorite bar - cafe no se ;)* In addition, the staff is extremely kind and accommodating, which I find quite rare these days. They really make an effort to get to know you OR at least display that they remember you on every visit thereafter (sidenote: i have since stayed at Hotel Burkhard 3 times!) There is hot water in each of the the private bathrooms and amazing natural light in most. The terrace is a great feature for reading, listening to some tunes OR enjoying some refreshing gallos. No they don't sell gallos there, but they are a-okay with you bringing in some of your own to enjoy.

This review is long overdue, but it just hit me while emailing Burkhard for my December 2012 stay. Yes - I know, way in advance, but I wouldn't want to have to settle on staying somewhere else should they book up.

Yo amo Burkhard!

PS - My only regret was not finding Hotel Burkhard sooner! i would have definitely stayed there my 1st 3 times in Guatemala as well!

if you are a budget traveller staying at hostels, this will be a retreat for you even for a night. For the same price that you would pay at an avarage hostel ( with no wc, no tv, shared bath etc etc) you can have them all at Burkhard. The rooms upstairs have more light. Most rooms have really hot water provided with gas which is a biggg luxury in central america. beds are comfortable, there is internet and water for free and a cute small terrace. The hotel might be a bit claustrophobic for some people, no much large space available and it has a bit dark atmosphere though.

Room Tip: the room at the first floor to the right is the largest.

I have stayed here many times on my way in and out of Guatemala. I can get picked up here early in the morning to go to the airport by a taxi or shuttle instead of staying Guatemala city. You can go out to lots of bars and restaurants nearby. It's much better than a hostel for a similar price. For about 100 Q you can stay and have a nice private bath and TV. If you prefer more quiet, stay upstairs. There is also free internet and a cooking area if you want to make your breakfast.

I was introduced to Posada Burkhardt by a former Peace Corps volunteer. It's apparently still a popular choice for the PC when they're in town. The rooms are very economical, about 110-140 for a double, with private bathrooms. The entire hotel is decorated in a quirky manner. The pipes are usually disguised as vines or ropes, and the brickwork is left exposed or covered with decorative stone. There are various antiques left lying around. It's kind of goofy, but endearing.
The rooms vary dramatically in size, often without any change in the price, so it's worth taking a look at the available options before committing to one. Also, the larger room near the front of the hotel faces one of the busiest streets in town, so it can be pretty loud at night.

The staff is very friendly, as well.

Room Tip: I wouldn't recommend the big room in the front, unless you have a big group and want to share.

Although this Posada looks a bit like a hostel, it offers private rooms that are simple and clean with private bathroom. Rates at this time were 110 quetzales for single. Wonderful and friendly staff. I only wish the wireless internet was accessible from upstairs rooms.

Room Tip: upstairs rooms have window but can't access wireless.
