“Beautiful ruins”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Took us a second to find the actual entrance to the ruins (its on the side street to the right) but once were found it we were blown away. You can see all of the structural beams to the ceiling but all of the domes are missing--it's strangely beautiful. You can also go down into the crypts. There are no signs or information on what you're looking at which was disappointing.

They rebuilt the front facade of the church on The Plaza and a small church inside. We walked through but didn't spend any time in it.

Not a long visit, but worth the stop.

“Larger than expected”

Worth taking a guide or at least read something before you go to get the most out of the visit. Entrance is on the side street.

“impressive ruins”
Reviewed December 18, 2013

Maybe it is because it was the first ruin we visited in Antigua, but we inmediately were really impressed by the state of the ruins, especially by the open air through where the cupulas used to be (part of the structure is rebuilt in order to get the "ring" through which you see the sky). At the back, there are still spaces with the blocks of ruined cathedral left where they had fallen more than 2 centuries ago...wow.

“Awesome and peaceful”
Reviewed December 10, 2013

Awesome cathedral with magnificent architecture and yet a true living church with services going on. Just on the steps you can watch the world go by and purchase fromthe street sellers who are not pushy or invasive.
