“interesting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

Very interesting to see what an earthquake 30 years ago can do to a church. Its also very cool to see what they are doing to rebuild. A tour guide is a must, or you really won't know what things are.

“Interesting church and ruins”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Largely destroyed by an earthquake in the 1700s, only the front part of the church on the square remains. The ruins are interesting with a mix of standing and collapsed columns. You understand why the capital was relocated to Guatemala City after the earthquake.

“visit during holy periods”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013

We were here during Lent and were able to watch a procession from one of the villages to this church. It was quite an experience with people carrying large floats and a band.
You can position yourself to get a great photo of the church and one of the volcanoes in the background.
